Hodnett Elected Head of Provincial Odd Fellows
The Eightieth Annual Session of the Grand Lodge of Manitoba opened in Winnipeg on March 20 and 21 with Grand Master Duncan Welch of Virden presiding. Lodge representatives attended as reports on the Order and lodge activities were presented. The Odd Fellows Home in Charleswood reported an average of fifty residents for the year.

Hazlewood 50th anniversary marked by family open house
Mr and Mrs John Hazlewood celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with an open house at their Crandall home on March 19. About 95 guests signed the guest book and more than 100 cards were received including greetings from Prime Minister Diefenbaker and Premier Roblin. The event featured tea by local hostesses and a wedding cake by Mrs O Hyndman Rivers.

The Birdtail River Division Board met February 21 1963 at Shoal Lake with trustees Stimpson Selby Fulton Reynolds Fraser Hunter and Rapley and Inspector Funk present. They discussed correspondence from multiple parties, approved minutes, rent payments for St Lazare High School facilities, monthly transport for Sisters of Mary, and purchases including duplicating machines crest s and sports equipment. The board set March 27 1963 as the next meeting date.

Beulah Isabella square dance jamboree drew dancers from Rivers Brookdale Cardale Hamiota Virden Selsgirth Birtle Isabella and Beulah with a large crowd and thanks to all helpers.

Mrs C Wail and Johnnie visited Mr and Mrs Don Sherwin over the weekend. The 4H girls and leaders planned Achievement Day for May 6 at 8 p.m. Telephone Whist Parties were held with enjoyable evenings. The U C W met at Mrs Dave Heise's home with Mrs A Adams presiding. Reverend D Heise led a Worship on the Lord's Prayer with three versions read and a solo. Mrs F Reid discussed On Asia's Rim and showed Hong Kong pictures including the Canadian Soldiers cemetery photographed by Don McInnis and notes on Dr Pryor's address at Miniota. Evening Unit meetings will be the second Wednesday monthly. A dainty lunch followed.
