Long Journey Abroad for Mrs Lawson and Party

Mrs Robert Lawson, Mrs J C Davidson and daughter Lillian Jett plan a Europe trip starting Sunday evening. They will stop in Chicago to visit relatives then sail Wednesday at 2 pm on the Lusitania to England. They will visit Ireland before returning to the United States in October.

Tr Bruce Recalls Father Suicide At Bilston

Bruce of Glenwood granite works learned Monday his father G T Bruce killed himself at his Bilston home in Ringgald county southeast of Creston. A brief note says a bad fall Saturday left him not in his right mind. he was a prominent farmer and land stockman in good financial condition.

Thaw Denied Release from Asylum in New York Case

Harry Thaw, who killed Stanford White, is denied release from the asylum where he is confined after his last trial. A judge ruled public safety requires continued confinement and Thaw will seek transfer to a private asylum.

State pays depositors in first state guarantee

The first use of a state guarantee of bank deposits occurred at Coal Gate Oklahoma last week when a bank failed and the state bank commissioner paid all depositor demands. The community expressed satisfaction as private inconveniences and losses were avoided.

Mills County special election on bonds for new courthouse

Mills County Iowa Board of Supervisors orders a special election June 22 1908 to submit a proposition to issue bonds of seventy five thousand dollars to fund a new court house on the Glenwood public square. The county may levy up to two mills for ten years to pay principal and interest. Polls open 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. at usual polling places. Glenwood May 13 1908. B T Agan Auditor.

Mr and Mrs F Pullman visited Sidney with George Pullman and wife. Henry Pullman will be in town Tuesday for the first time since breaking a leg in April. W J Whittington visits with a brother from Joplin Mo. John Vankirk returned from a trip through western Kansas and eastern Colorado. EPF Landon visits his aged brother from Michigan who arrived Tuesday morning. A patriotic entertainment will be at the opera house Saturday evening May 30, conducted by Rev Peter Jacobs. John Pullman sold pumps and repair outfit to F W Anderson, who bought the Spencer Mill property on Main Street to overhaul the pump business.

Special Election Proclamation Mills County Iowa 1908

Sheriff L G Linville proclaims a Mills County special election on June 22 1908 to vote on issuing 75000 for a new courthouse with a two mill tax levy for up to ten years. Polls open 8 am to 7 pm at all usual voting places in Glenwood Iowa.
