Missouri River Flood Wrecks Crops Across Mills County
The Missouri river cresting in Mills county causes severe bottomland floods not seen since 1881. Levees at St Mary Platteville failed to hold back rising waters, nearby farms flooded, livestock harmed, and crops threatened though replanting may salvage some fields. Flood spans Lyons township with extensive inundation from Pacific Junction to Bartlett road. Wave action from a northwest wind worsened the breach, but land away from the river remains above flood levels. Across the valley, rains and mountain snowmelt feed ongoing high waters from Sioux City to Kansas City, yet overall growth persists amid weed problems and cultivation challenges.
