Highway Commission Debate Sparks Iowa Tax Furor
The Greater Iowa Association backed by Ames rulers issues a circular criticizing Doran and Pitt who want the highway commission abolished. They note the commission costs 80 000 annually and that farmers pay about 25 cents each, citing a Scott county farmer who left the Taxpayers League over the issue. Backers warn Town would lose progress, while critics say taxation power is misused by entrenched voices. Capital expansion steam spurs graft concerns.
