Glenwood reports multiple residents visiting relatives in Iowa and Vermont, arrivals from Des Moines and Missouri Valley, and upcoming Commercial Club meeting at the courthouse. Activities include parish picnics, library board appointments, and a memorial day plan with the Glenwood Woodmen lodge.
Notice to Growers offers tomato plants at 1 73 per 1000 with immediate setting. New Glenwood Canning Co lists goods for sale or trade and a few horses about Glenwood. Allen Packing Co sells Terry Berry Boxes and seeks early apples. Dr J J Humphrey promotes veterinary services in Malvern with boarding during institute. A Sackett piano tuner operates from Glenwood via music store or Commercial House. Eye strain warning and Howe’s Primanry glasses marketed. Minor garbled items reference Howards and local dates.
Plans for the Mills county teachers institute to be held in Glenwood at the high school building next week. Sessions run until Tuesday June 25 with regular examinations to follow on June 26 27 and 28. Supt Moore with instructors will lead the regular program and a two day session by T R Potts Gowen school No 1 Oak township will illustrate rural school methods. Fees under the law include enrollment 1 registration 1 and certificate renewal 3.
Weather and crop notes from Mills County describe little change in corn. Frequent rains prevented field work while some days were warm. Small grain hay pastures and fruits benefited, home grown strawberries hit markets at 15 cents a quart, frost cut early berries, raspberries and blackberries look promising, and cherries will be very light, mostly for birds.
A close baseball game in Glenwood saw the West Siders fall 12 to 13 to the Web Feet, formerly Joe McQurdy's Colts. Batteries were Miller and Warren for the Web Feet and Edwards and Hamilton for the West Siders. Chas Minoner umpired without objections.
The twelfth district Christian Endeavor convention held in Glenwood last week selects Red Oak as host for next year. New officers: President Rev. W. A. Schwimley Shenandoah. Vice President Adalyne Artz Red Oak. Secretary Mable L. Seal Clarinda. Treasurer Mrs. R. P. Galt Farragut. Junior Superintendent Mrs. Carrie Nichols Tabor. Missionary Superintendent Prof. George Brown Shenandoah.
Real estate transfers show H Marley selling lots 6 7 and 8 and part of lot 10 in Malvern from book 44 and 37 to JG Leming. CF Anderson transfers land in Platteville township to F Anderson. Fred Stone sells 20 acres in White Cloud township to E L Summers. FG Day sells part of book 16 in Glenwood to W E Wickersham.
Merchant Ju B Morley writes from Blanchard Iowa praising Capt. FP Fowler the Glenwood auctioneer. On May 24 and 25 Fowler sold Morley’s 12000 stock of general merchandise and cleared a profit, recommending him as a straight and upright gentleman to fellow merchants.
The advertisement touts Fooley's Kidney Cure as a remedy for kidney and bladder issues and claims it never disappoints. It notes A J Howe endorsing the product and mentions other items from Rolin's including Glenwood views and a small cook stove for sale at 3 000 W EB Hill.
Glenwood churches list morning and evening services with sermon topics and texts. Includes Congregational Children's Day, Baptist memorial sermon, St John’s Episcopal Sunday themes, Church of Christ regular services, Holiness Church preaching, reader Inslee Bogart, and advertised letters at Glenwood post office. Also eye care ad for Howe's Pharmacy offering free examination.
