Burglars Break Into Pinkenstein Store in Glenwood

Burglars entered through a broken back door of the Pinkenstein store in Glenwood Saturday night. About 90 cents was taken from the cash register and three dollars in pennies from a drawer. A bunch of keys was stolen. Merchandise theft was not confirmed.

Postmaster Salary Rise Ties to Regional Prosperity

Glenwood postmaster BR White learns of a $100 salary raise effective July at a yearly rate of 1900.00. The increase reflects office business growth from July 1, 1906, to April 1, 1907, aligning Glenwood with nearby Iowa towns where postmasters at Council Bluffs Atlantic Avoca Red Oak and Shenandoah also gain $100.

Supreme Court Rules Against Vanderpool in Eye Injury Case

The Nebraska Supreme Court sustains a trial verdict against John Edgar Vanderpool in his suit for damages from an eye injury suffered while working for Charles W. Partridge in Omaha. Vanderpool, who sought to prove employer negligence over a faulty chisel, has 45 days to file a motion for a new hearing. The case centers on a chipped chisel fragment injuring his eye while chiseling a brick wall. Vanderpool resides south of Glenwood.

Henderson Bank Deposits and New Elevator Project Outline

The Farmers National Bank of Henderson reports deposits of 93 329 08 and loans of 83 742 73 as of May 20. W H Harbor awarded a Fairbury Nebraska contractor the elevator build, to replace the old structure with completion aimed for July 4. Henderson town and Anderson township form a public building partnership near the calaboose, a 22 by 30 foot cement block structure with space for council meetings and storage.
