Glenwood residents and visitors share Decoration day at local cemeteries and memorials. Colleagues and kin from Council Bluffs Omaha and Lincoln attend services, with old friends and relatives visiting from Hastings Blair and Shenandoah.

Decoration Day Tribute in Glenwood Honors War Veterans

Citizens gathered in Glenwood to observe Decoration Day with a large parade and ceremonies. Veterans laid flowers on graves as bands played wartime tunes, while Rev Palmerton led prayers and J Bernie Mershon recited Gettysburg and A D French read Our Veterans. Senator A V Proudfoot gave the day’s address urging preservation of national holidays and honoring living veterans.

Decoration Day Observance Ends with Benediction 1912

A large audience heard a commendable address praising the old soldiery as they near the end of their numbers. The event concluded with the quartet singing America and Rev L D Brainerd delivering the benediction, marking the formal close of Decoration Day activities in 1912.
