Baby Survives Brass Tack Swallowing Near Glenwood

A ten month old boy, son of Mr and Mrs Scott McClure, nearly choked on a brass headed tack on a Glenwood porch Friday night. Neighbors and doctors responded as the child’s breath failed, and the tack was dislodged and forced into the stomach. Artificial respiration saved the infant, who recovered by the next day.

Lou Trobridge, a farmer near Tabor, demonstrated in Omaha a new corn disease he says is spreading across Iowa and into Nebraska. He shows stalks with healthy upper portions but dead roots and shriveled leaves that cling to the stalk, warning farmers to prepare for a corn failure despite good outward growth.
