Fire destroys Lyons blacksmith shop and outbuildings
J L King and wife Mrs King were unaware the blaze had started in their Lyons area blacksmith shop six miles south of Glenwood. Sparks from a forge allegedly ignited an old quilt. Loss estimated at $200 with no insurance. The fire consumed the shop, buggy shed, wood shed, two buggies, ten cords of wood and cured meat.

Changed Title for Methodist Leader in Glenwood
The presiding elder Reverend A E Griffith will preach at the Glenwood Methodist church next Sunday and in Mills county soon. The General Conference renamed the role District Superintendent, though many still use Presiding Elder as a beloved longtime title. Elders now hold the office, but the traditional term remains cherished by local Methodists.

Gooseberries Arrive From State Institution Donor
The Sidney Herald reports a package the editorial desk opened contained 15 very large gooseberries from Iowa. They average about three inches in circumference and are described as superb in flavor. Donor Charles Colbert, known in Sidney, is noted for managing the fruit department at the Glenwood State institution for five years.
