Glenwood residents share a busy spell with visits from Malvern Emerson Onawa Shenandoah and Council Bluffs. Rev W long and Rev Smith preach while education boards and local stores update staffing and bookkeeping plans.
Deputy Sheriff Everett V. Rhoades sustained a gunshot wound to the right thigh when a revolver fell onto a cement floor in the Armory basement and discharged. Authorities say the injury is unlikely to be serious.
Superintendent Masters announced the county spelling contest scheduled for Saturday February 19 in Malvern has been postponed to a later date. All contestants will be notified. The postponement is due to the prevalence of contagious diseases in the county.

John Ellis Scott born January 1 1850 in Appanoose County Iowa died February 3 1916 in Santa Ana California aged 66 years 1 month 3 days. He moved to Glenwood Iowa 1877 lived there until 1903 then settled in California. Survived by wife Sarah J Wright three children Della Schick Mary Cole and M Russell Scott one brother and four sisters. A Methodist Episcopal member his life reflected devoted husband father neighbor and civic citizen with generous kindness. His body arrived in Glenwood for burial last Thursday.

The obituary notes a cheerful man whose funeral was held in Santa Ana California on February 6 conducted by Rev. Inwood of the M E church. Floral offerings were profuse and many friends attended. Remains were taken to Glenwood Iowa for burial on February 9 with many distant relatives present.
Willis Thomas of Malvern has sold his barber shop to EH Springer who has served as his first man for years. Thomas will move to Peaceville to start farming after buying the Henry Parker place. His Malvern residence comes with the deal and Mrs Parker will move into the Thomas house beside the Christian church.
Horace Birdsall of Claremont South Dakota visited relatives and will load the remainder of his household goods for shipment to Claremont. He sold his Emerson residence and had a portion stored there. Possession is to be given by March 1. He notes unusually cold weather in his area with temperatures from zero to 40 below.
The condition of Miss Hazel Moses in an Omaha hospital is not promising this Monday morning. W H Miller was summoned to Shenandoah this Monday by his father’s serious illness, one of Shenandoah’s oldest residents, suffering pneumonia.
