Miss Lenore Burkett of Lincoln visited grandmother Mrs. Sarah Wright while Glenwood recorded a 27 below zero thermometer at Schappel's. Local residents made business trips to Silver City and Des Moines, with many town visits, church meetings, and family gatherings noted.
A community production titled The Touch-Down will be staged Friday February 9 1917. The senior class presents the play with local talent and school spirit, promising an engaging evening for attendees.

Lost items include a brown overcoat and automobile chains. A school program and a box social are announced with details for Evernham school house. The box social and program scheduled for Thursday evening February 1 at the Grove school house has been postponed to Thursday evening February 8. Irene Tufingston, teacher, asks attendees to keep the new date in mind.

R H Butterfield, formerly living on the R O Jackson farm half a mile west of Hillsdale, purchased a 60 acre farm seven miles south of Glenwood and moved there last Monday. Previously Jackson and Butterfield held a sale last month with strong results from Tribune advertising.
Local talent company staged Esmeralda at Rex theater Friday night to raise about $50 for municipal park playground equipment. Cast included J. R. Neveln Mary Rathke Darlene Guuselley Merrill Myers Ewart Howe O R Patrick Maurice Lewis Lois Moiee and Clarice Rist with Glenwood high school orchestra providing music.
Charlie Chaplin’s fifth comedy The Count is billed as the funniest yet in the Rex program this week. He starts as a tailor’s assistant who loses his job and crashes a reception posing as a French count, sparking humorous mix ups and sharp wit.
A morning fire at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. K. Rether on South Vine Street was extinguished by neighbors and Institute workers. The blaze started from a spark on the roof from the chimney and caused small damage, covered by insurance. The Rether couple thanked neighbors for swift help.
Glenwood Library notes show little readers enjoying new primers. February 6 marks the library opening anniversary. January circulation reached 1805 with a peak day of 145 and a low of 29, average 69. Reading room visitors totaled 402. New titles include School Music Teaching by Git tings and Industrial History of England by Cheyney. The Boy Problem in the Home among others. New fiction includes Parl of a Nation by Dixon, The Leatherwood God by Howells, In Search of a Husband by Harris, The Rudder by Watts, and Trepsey Burke by Westcott.
The Ladies of the Congregational church invite all to a Kensington meeting Thursday February 8 at 2 30 PM at Mrs Gilliland’s home. Attendees should bring a friend. The revival at the Christian church features B G Reavis and singer Pollock with Mrs Lewis.

Wayne Choate known as Gov Choate invited former students to a Thursday evening at his home. The mock trial featured Dean Jackson and Leonard Gilmore on trial for The Monopolizing of the Woods with Wayne as lawyer. they were acquitted. Esmeralda netted over eighty five dollars. about fifty dollars likely after expenses. Attendance included several teachers and students with performances by Betty Bennett Blossom Wilcox Mina Valentine and others.
A roundup of community happenings includes a leap year party with guests guessing board dimensions and men building aprons. prizes awarded to Miss Stella Fish and Dr. J M Donelan. Notables visiting Ilinois and Mineola real estate moves highlighted along with local crafts and school plans. Mills County Farmers Institute dates set. officers named. A humor tale contrasts old fashioned Jones with Srhith who shows off a new automobile. Jones asks about the side feature and learns it is a spare rim and tire. He quips that after fifty years of horse driving he never carried a spare leg.
