Pacific Junction residents were promised electric lights by January 1. A local update recalls many social visits and movements of residents such as Wright Perkins of Parkville and Miss Iowa Deardorff of Malvern visiting friends, with moves and visits around town including Purcell, Anderson, and Godsey households.
The Malvern sewer line test shows water reaching Silver Creek while a new connection will run east of the National Bank and post office. Local residents Ed Summers returns from Knoxville. Fred Summers undergoes leg surgery in Omaha, with amputation performed and hospitalization ongoing. J W McNulty moves family to the Baird house. the Baird children will live with Albert in Plainview. Dr and Mrs Scott sell their Malvern residence and plan to relocate, likely to California after recovery. The Declamatory contest trainer arrives from Omaha. contest set for December 22. Domestic Science girls at the high school will demonstrate progress by serving meals. The text includes a dramatic courtroom exchange involving Dick, his wife, and Burke, with questions about Griggs' murder and witness testimony, ending with Dick seeking time and avoidance of discussing his wife.
Mary Turner a department store clerk is sentenced to three years in prison for a theft she did not commit. Edward Gilder store owner hopes she will confess. After prison she is freed but barred from work and contemplates suicide. She forms a crime partnership with forger Joe Garson as a scheme to swindle victims. Police intervene leading to arrests including Griggs and Garson. Mary and Dick Gilder face murder charges in a tangle of betrayals and police inquiries.
The Noonday luncheon honored the Supt and school board on Saturday. Mrs. EK Gilmore of Omaha visited her mother Mrs. Himebaugh last week while Mr. G attended Sunday events. Malvern Lodge 476 I C O F held a Home Coming night with James King catering as oysters with trimmings were the highlight. A visiting brother misbehaved and was dealt with. the gathering left the brothers pleased by a lively time.
