The notice urges merchants to advertise stock and bargains to reach customers who do not call in. It promotes using open columns for bargain hunting and connecting with buyers through advertising.
The notice lists Glenwood Depot location near Bromley and Lew office selling cigars tobacco lemonade soda and root beer with G W Rowan as manager. Also advertised are Peeler Hose products, Miss Barnes selling them, and a later entry notes Hogs for sale near Heston Station with 90 shoats and 26 hogs 100 to 200 lbs bred well by Jobo Anderson. Pacific Junction Rid No 1 Ice now 45c per hundred pounds with artificial ice only from Windham and Bonham.
Mrs Mary Barbee Simpson aged 38 died at her son's home in Shenandoah. Born 1854 she lived on the Barbee homestead near Glenwood and near Slawthorne in Montgomery county. Her husband Alexander Simpson died six years ago and she leaves four sons and one daughter and several brothers and sisters.
Carl W. Atkinson of Blencoe elected science teacher and will supervise music and athletics. He studies at Cornell College Mt Vernon and will focus on athletics neglected recently. Jessie O Connell of Chicago chosen as Latin and history instructor, Chicago University graduate. No high school principal chosen yet. several applicants considered. School starts Sept 7.
In a Los Angeles dated Aug 8 letter Dr DeWitt says he and his family will be home in about two weeks and refutes a Tribune rumor that he plans to leave Glenwood. He states no investment or negotiation to move, plans to stay in Glenwood for life, finds California delightful but Glenwood best in the state.
Robert Murphy on a farm east of Strahan plans to seek reimbursement from the County Board for 35 sheep killed by dogs the first of last week. Three neighbors served as appraisers to determine the damage amount. Also noted are local ads for Glenwood mercantile half-price sales, photographs, loans, a job opening, and a 120 acre Center township farm sale tied to the A. B. Clarkson estate in Glenwood Iowa.
A historical ad-like note claims most appendicitis victims are constipated. It promotes Foley's Orino Laxative as a remedy that stimulates the liver and bowels, restores natural bowel action, and is mild with no nausea or griping. Signed A. J. Howe, Glenwood.

They announce an office in Glenwood with C W Edwards in charge and a promotional car Ashland leaving September 1 and 15.
