The Durham County Federation of Agriculture held its regular monthly Directors Meeting at Orono Township Hall on Wednesday evening April 30. The County Insurance Committee arranged a talk and pictures by Ray Hergott, Ontario Federation of Agriculture Field Supervisor. Business included updates from Ron Brooks and W. K. Nowak after attending the Ontario Poultry Producers Association Annual Meeting, noting a likely petition to be circulated soon.

Farmers hear on insurance and cattle TB brucellosis reforms
The meeting covered a 2 cent levy per 30 dozen eggs and 1 cent per hen to fund a Promotional Plan for eggs and fowl. Ron was named Zone Director. Discussion included Land Acquisition Committee matters with Hydro and a proposal to raise compensation for TB and brucellosis reactors to 80 dollars for grade cattle and 150 dollars for pure-bred. The E.A. Summers Memorial Fund nears 1100 dollars with a memorial trophy planned for the Royal Winter Fair. C.I.A. Insurance outlined farmer protection needs, growth figures, and refunds to agriculture groups totaling 73,663.50. A farm liability policy drive was announced with slides showing common farm accidents.
