Miss Mary L. Widdis visited Mr. and Mrs. Anson Morton and family on Sunday. L. W. Argue spent the weekend with his parents before returning to Guelph to work at Ontario Agricultural College. Henrietta Wood enjoys a three week Europe vacation touring England Ireland Wales and Holland then plans Brussels World Fair and trips to Denmark Germany. Audrey Wood of Hamilton and Sid Cooper of Haliburton were guests of H. C. Arguelagi Saturday.
Mr M Case has led Zion Pentecostal Church for three years and was ordained in Toronto on April 23. He will preach a farewell sermon at Zion Line Church on Sunday May 4 at 11 oclock.
Friday May 9 Jim Fisher and Orchestra will perform real Canadian square dancing. Dancing starts sharp at 9 30 p m Admission 1 00 Co sponsored by the Cavan Hall Board Obedience and proper attire expected to ensure good influence and patronage.
Millbrook patrons enjoyed Walt Disney’s Old Yeller in Peterborough and a repeat showing is planned at Port Hope Capitol Theatre starting Monday. Shows begin at 6 45 and 9 00 daylight-saving time and managers urge out of town patrons to arrive early for better seats.
The Golden Sheaf Rebekah Lodge announces a baking sale in the 1.C.C.F. Hall on Saturday May 10. Proceeds support lodge activities and local charitable efforts. Community members are urged to attend and purchase goods.
A fresh stock of counter check books arrived at The Reporter office with no price increase. The supply ensures availability for patrons without any change to current rates.
The Lady Lions held a well attended April meeting at Mrs. A. R. Payne home. The cup and saucer draw went to Mrs. Payne a first time winner. A Garden Tea and Bake Sale is planned for June 25 hosted by Mrs. Liesemer with other helpers. May gathering set for May 26 at Mrs. W. A. O'Brien home.
In memory of William Elmer who died May 1 1957. Though gone from earth he remains with us in memory as he was. Ever remembered by sons William Norman and John, daughters Mary and Sarah.
Memorial note for Mrs. Luttle Pritchard who died May 1 1954. The message says God took her home, it was His will, and that she liveth still in the family’s hearts. It notes she is sadly missed by husband and family.
A Mammoth Share the Wealth Bingo is set for Millbrook Armouries on Saturday May 17 sponsored by the Millbrook Lions Club. Proceeds go to local charitable projects and community services.
On King Street over the weekend two girls Marilyn Liesemer and Nancy Powell briefly ran in a mock foot race when Judy Reid pulled a rubber rat on a thread. The prank spooked the girls who dashed away as bystanders watched a passing four or five year old guide a younger child safely across the street. Harvey Challice, a market gardener, loads crates in his car as he plans to stock fresh vegetables for summer.
Kenyon J. Scudder, famed prison reform leader, visits Toronto on May 5 to address the John Howard Society of Ontario at Osgoode Hall. Former superintendent of the California Institution for Men at Chino, he authored Prisoners are People and helped found adult and youth councils in Los Angeles County. He now serves as national director of field services for the Osborne Association. The meeting is open to the public.
Mrs. Gertrude Coulter expresses gratitude to friends and neighbours for fruit cards and gifts during her accident and recovery, noting appreciation for their kindness and support.
The Young People’s Society and Zion Pentecostal Church members held a social evening at Mr and Mrs G R Clark in Cavan village on April 26 to present gifts to Rev M and Mrs Case. Mrs Case had earlier received a gift from the Women’s Missionary Council. The group gave a carving set coffee table and a step up table. Music and games followed. Thanks are offered to all who helped, especially the Clarks and J W Haw Funeral Home for chairs.
The infant son of Rev and Mrs H C Quinn was baptized at Christ Church Bailieboro on Sunday morning April 27 1958 by the rector his father. The baby was named David Kevin with godparents Mr and Mrs Frank Hark sess and Ida. After the service the baptismal party returned to the rectory at Millbrook for dinner.
