Farewell Sermon at St Andrew's For Rev Chisholm

The Rev Francis P Chisholm preached his farewell sermon at St Andrew's Church before moving to Port Dalhousie. He titled the message Saved to Serve with text I am not come to call the righteous but sinners to repentance. The service drew many from area churches and a wallet gift was presented by B E Ingham and Herbert Patton for his three years of ministry. Mrs Stanley Northrop of Peterborough was guest soloist as the junior choir sang. Rev Dr Harry Tuttle of Toronto will preach the first three Sundays in July.

Larmer Reunion Picnic At Riverside Park

About 125 relatives attended the Larmer Reunion Picnic at Riverside Park Peterborough on Saturday June 21 with races relays and contests and a picnic supper. Prizes honored the eldest lady youngest child longest married couple and greatest distance. officers for 1958 were named and 1959 picnic plans hinted. Relatives came from Toronto Oshawa Lambeth Cameron Bowmanville Black Rock Burketon Manitoba Millbrook Peterborough Lindsay and more.

Grace Church W.M.S. Plans July Pot Luck Supper

Grace Presbyterian Church W.M.S. held a June meeting at Mrs. Gerald Armstrongs home with seventeen members and one visitor. President Mrs. Clifford Larmer led devotions as Acts chapter 1 was read. The group discussed the Christian mission and agreed July will feature a pot luck dinner at Mrs. E. L. Armstrongs on July 16. Special music by the church choir accompanied a large parade procession.

Fine weather for church service in East Durham parade

The Orange Lodges of East Durham held their annual church parade service at Grace Presbyterian Church. Rev. F. C. Beazer of Peterborough, Past Grand Chaplain, preached. County Marshall Wm Wiltshire led the parade carrying the flag, followed by the Bethany band The Fallis.

Cavan Church Honors Chisholm Family Before Departure

Cavan United Church held a Thursday evening gathering in the Church Hall to honor Rev. Francis P. Chisholm and his family ahead of their move to Port Dalhousie. Rae Stewart chaired, gifts were presented including a purse, a crystal fruit bowl, and a bronze letter opener.
