Two New Members Initiated Into I C C F Lodge 308 Millbrook

Millbrook Lodge No 308 initiated two new members on Tuesday evening June 17. Wm Smillie and Edward Quibell were welcomed by Noble Grand Walter Seward. A Decoration Day Service is planned for early September. Appreciation was given to the Legion Pugle Band and Dr Neal for a Grace Presbyterian Church service and his talk on Love Friendship and Truth.

Social Personal Notes From Port Hope and Nearby

Mr and Mrs Fred Smith and Mr and Mrs Wm Mcdonald of Port Hope called on Mr and Mrs Arthur Foottit last Saturday evening. Mr Smith is much improved in health. Mr Alfred Hooper of New Liskeard Ontario visited with his cousins Mr and Mrs Willmot Horner at Manvers Station during the weekend. Mrs Pearl Hunter has returned to Detroit after visiting her sister and brother in law Mr and Mrs R A Wood. Mrs Wood motored to Toronto with her and visited her brothers Mr Jack and Thomas Armstrong. Miss Henrietta Wood and Mr R A Wood motored to Toronto Sunday. Mrs Wood returned home with them.

Olan Sawmill Fire Destroys mill and lumber in village blaze

The Olan sawmill burned early Saturday with an estimated loss of 75 000 dollars. Fire Chief Douglas Sheppard and crew responded quickly as flames gutted the wooden structure. Owner Stan Olan valued mill damage at 35 000 and lumber at 40 000 with small insurance. Rebuilding prospects uncertain but community hopes for revival due to local jobs.

Millbrook Girls Slip A Run Short In Courtice Loss

Courtice defeated Millbrook 7 to 1 on Wednesday at the local fairgrounds, Millbrook suffering its first loss in four games after a rough start with four first inning runs by Courtice. Lynda Hoge scored Millbrook's lone run with a fifth inning double, stealing third and scoring on a Courtice error.

Fairmount Centenary Garden Party Planned by United Church

The Fairmount United Church will host a Centennial Garden Party on Tuesday July 1 featuring a turkey supper with salad and strawberries starting at 5:30 p.m. A musical program will follow. Admission is 1.25 dollars for adults and 50 cents for children.
