Red Cross meeting elects Miss Sutton president for second year
At the Millbrook Red Cross Society annual meeting in Cavan Township, Miss Josie Sutton was named president for a second year. Officers include Mrs. H A Tate, Mrs. W L Elson, Mrs. H R Edmunds, Mrs. P I Bentley, and H A Kerr as treasurer. Kerr reported funds for 1956 totaling 1512.01 with expenses 847.28. December 31 cash on hand 664.73. Donations included pullovers and sweaters from members, with Quilts from Women’s Institute and Hungarian relief funds. Delegates to the Red Cross Convention were named.

Grace Church W M S Study Book Introduced
The January meeting of Grace Presbyterian Church W M S met at Mrs Clifford Larmer s home with Mrs Houstin presiding. Readings were by Mrs Tom Skipp Jr and Mrs Herbert Bremner. Mrs E Eakins led prayer as the group discussed the South East Asia study book. The day included a poem, offertory prayer, and hymns. The next meeting will be at Mrs Herbert Bremner s home with lunch hosted by Mrs Lorne Farrow and Mrs Bremner.

Millbrook native David Nugent dies in Ottawa at 75
Former Millbrook man David Bertram Nugent died at his Ottawa home on January 18 after a long illness at age seventy five. Born in Millbrook in Ontario he moved to Ottawa in 1907 and served 40 years at the Dominion Observatory shaping astronomical work. He led the Division of Positional Astronomy until 1945 and contributed to Canada’s star catalogues. He leaves two daughters a sister and five grandchildren. Interment in Beechwood Cemetery followed a funeral at Queensway Church.
