Milford Plunge Draws Big Crowds In Hot Weather

Milford sees strong turnout at the popular pool as temperatures rise. Attendant LaVar Voorhies notes daily attendance around fifty to sixty, with about sixty Primary children using the facility today. The water passes state sanitary inspection and an eight foot spectator platform is being added with future bath houses planned.

Beaver Celebrates 4th With Parade and Ball Game

Beaver plans a Fourth of July celebration with a 10 o clock parade, 11 o clock program at the West Ward chapel, afternoon children’s sports, a Minersville vs Beav er ball game, and a grand ball in the Legion pavilion. Neighboring towns invited to join the festivities.

J E Wilson Democratic County Committeeman left Saturday for Chicago to attend the Democratic National Convention as Utah's delegate. He expects to reach Chicago about ten Monday morning for the opening session of the convention.

Veronica Davis to Marry July 4th

Invitation to the wedding of Miss Veronica Davis was received by Mr. and Mrs. A.L. Wy kouvhl. Davis, formerly a nurse at Milford Hospital, left last August for Ophir. The ceremony is set for the Tooele chapel on the Fourth morning with a breakfast in Ophir. Mrs. Wynaught plans to attend. Mr. Wynaught cannot due to business.

Pioneer woman dies at home in Beaver

Sarathi Smith Gillies 71 wife of Ebenezer Gillies Sr. Beaver resident died at family home after a weeklong pneumonia illness. Born Feb 22, 1861 she married in 1879 and leaves eight sons and daughters, a grandson and great grandchild, eight siblings, and many relatives. Funeral held at West Ward Beaver chapel with services led by Bishop Wesley Farrer. Interment Mountain View Cemetery.

Mr. and Mrs. W F Sterling of Caliente Nev announce the marriage of their daughter Rose to Kenneth Russey son of Mr and Mrs S O Trossey of Milford. The ceremony occurred in Pioche Nev and the couple will reside there. The bride formerly lived in Milford.

Milford Receives Top Sanitary Rating From State Inspector

State Sanitary Inspector C O Pickel praised Milford after a thorough check of the town water supply swimming pool and overall sanitary conditions. He called Milford one of the best sanitary towns in the state and noted its pure water. The swimming pool also received approval with no improvements advised.

Milfordites Visit Beaver Canyon for Weekend Outing

Milford residents flock to Beaver Canyon for picnics and fishing over the weekend. Crowds gathered from Milford and nearby valley towns, enjoying cooling air, scenic lakes and streams, and rising waters from melting snow. Road access is excellent and the canyon offers a popular weekly escape.

Lions of Co Hold Joint Session

Beaver and Milford Lions clubs held a joint luncheon in Beaver with members from both towns attending. The Milford Lions traveled to Beaver for a get together and luncheon at the Low Cafe to discuss common interests and support for hosting the August Associated Civic clubs meeting in Beaver. Milford hosted a swim in the Milford plunge and a banquet at the U P dining room.

The Milford ward building committee announced official approval from Salt Lake City church authorities to start erecting the new ward chapel. An architect from Salt Lake City is due to arrive today to begin planning the project.

Early day mining man of Beaver Co dies in Salt Lake

The death of Thomas Weir in Salt Lake City on Sunday June 19 ends a notable Beaver County mining career of over twenty years. Weir worked with Samuel Newhouse in state mining development and held a large interest in Newhouse properties in west Beaver County. He financed and directed the spur railroad between Newhouse and Milford during the area’s boom days.

Pete Banks Chooses Jail Over Hot Outdoor Work

Pete Banks faced Judge Nichols after a Milford disturbance and was fined 25 dollars with an option to work off the amount for the city or serve ten days in jail. He chose jail to escape the heat and avoid outdoor labor.

Funeral Services for Greenville Man Jess H Barton

Funeral services were held in the Greenville meeting house for Jess H Barton who died June 20 after seven months with Brights disease. The service featured a male quartet, solos, and prayers. Survived by wife, five children, parents, four brothers, four sisters, and many relatives from multiple towns attended.

Radium Hot Springs Pool Wall Collapses Under Water

The south retaining wall of the Radium Hot Springs pool near Minersville gave way Sunday night under water pressure. The concrete failure was blamed on insufficient reinforcement. The pool, built last summer, will be repaired immediately.

Southern Counties Seek Share of New Relief Funds

A Richfield meeting of southern Utah civic clubs heard officials from Beaver Milford and other counties press for representation in federal relief funds. The group urged repeal of the road contract clause to allow force account road work and proposed county projects for possible federal road funds, with plans for a pre-session southern Utah meeting if a special legislature session occurs.

Former Beaver County Resident Dies in California

Mrs. Matilda Hardy of Compton California died June 20 at her home. Born in Fillmore sixty eight years ago she was a cousin of United States Senator King of Utah. Survived by sons Elmer Lorin and Milo Hardy and daughter Mrs Donald Coon all of Compton. Former Beaver County residents moved to Milford around 1910 and had many local friends. Married to William M. Hardy who died about three years ago.
