Beaver County Extends Major Road Upgrades Plan

County commissioners and the State Road Commission outline an extensive Beaver County road program. Ninety one Highway will receive most funding from state and federal sources with local land acquisition by the county. The plan covers grading graveling and oiling from three miles north of Beaver to the Millard county line with widening on Wild Cat hill and Pine Creek hill.

4 H Cooking Group Demonstration at High School

The 1st year 4-H cooking group met Thursday June 16 at the high school. Two demonstrations were given by girls from both 1st and 2nd year groups. Elaine Kirk led a lesson from the 1st year group and assignments for the next meeting were made. The group adjourned to Thursday June 23.

Repairs Cut Water Loss From Beaver Canyon Pipe Line

The Telluride Power Company repairs a large wooden pipe line between the upper and lower stations in Beaver canyon to stop leakage. Water loss had caused Beaver river shortages affecting Beaver City power plant and irrigation. Several hundred feet of new pipe are being installed under manager Cliff McShane.

Local Lions Attend District Convention in Heber City

Local Lions club members attended the district convention in Heber City on Monday and Tuesday. C. A. Sandles of Idaho Falls was elected governor for District 28, including Utah, with Ogden chosen as the 1983 convention city. Resolutions urged the United States to call an international conference to improve conditions and stabilize commodity prices at profitable levels.

Sunday Public Disturbance Leads to Fine for Louis Davis

Louis Davis appeared before Judge Nichols for fighting and disturbance of the peace on Sunday and was fined 25 dollars or ten days in jail. He could work out the fine. A complaint also named Pete Banks in the same disturbance.

Pioneer Day Plans Set By Legion Auxiliary

Members of the American Legion Auxiliary met at Mrs. M. J. Hughes home on May 16 to discuss the Backyard Playground project and to arrange a Pioneer Day celebration on July 24 in Milford.

Petty thieving noted around town and local events

Petty thieving is reported with two sets of hose taken from American Legion park and other small items from private property. Milford saw a double header baseball win local teams, and hospital surgery included Harold Baxter’s son Charles Tonsil removal at the local hospital. Wallace Berry Lands at Milford Field for Refuel

Film actor Wallace Berry landed his five passenger plane at Milford landing field Saturday to refuel. He had visited Fish Lake for the fishing season and planned to return to California with friends to enjoy the sport. Berry piloted the plane alone on the return trip.

Rev McNeil Receives Doctor of Theology Degree

Rev Dallas McNeil pastor of the Methodist Episcopal church of Milford returned from Denver where he attended the Colorado conference and the Iliff Graduate School of Theology graduation exercises. He received his Doctor of Theology degree.

Veterans of Foreign Wars Entertains Traveling Group

The News corrects a previous error and states that the Washington bound veterans were served by the Veterans of Foreign Wars with hot lunch in Milford. The VFW was aided by the ladies auxiliary of the VFW, and among seventy six diners there was only one American Legion member. A veteran named Luchenbach earned three citation medals, US, French, and Italian.

Hearing on Beryl Station Closure Held in Milford

A Milford hearing Tuesday evening addressed the closing of the Beryl railroad station. Public Utilities Commission members and railroad officials heard from F W Taylor Attorney Anderson Trainmasters N E McKinnon and J T Wardenberg. Beryl district farmers J P White Owen Klickinger and Mr Martinson attended to oppose closure. No public result has been announced.

Milford Boy Loses Fingers Raking Hay

Roy Patterson, age 15, lost the first two fingers of his left hand Saturday afternoon while helping his father rake hay in their south Milford field. He caught his fingers in the rake pulley.

Piute County Plans Scenic Puffer Lake Road Project

Construction will start in a few days on a road from Junction to Puffer's Lake. A committee led by L. C. Peterson and Verne Johnson chose the route. The scenic, shorter road will give access from both sides of the mountain and employ head-of-household residents from Piute County.

O. E. S. Ruth Chapter Holds Final Meeting

Members of the Ruth chapter O. E. S. held their final meeting for the season Tuesday evening. A social hour followed and the group adjourned until the first Tuesday in September.
