A cryptic note outlines a Ruminator’s mindset to dream often and think sparingly while lightly scattering bouquets and triggering bursts of action. The imagery suggests a playful, contentious approach to pursuing goals as they remain within reach.
The Milford Lions club luncheon sparks light jabs at local figures and state politics. The piece lampoons a Beaver county pamphlet, promotes an expedition to western Emery county, and jokes about Ray Carr leading a new search for elk and deer signs while critiquing regional advertising.
The Utah and Idaho Lions clubs held a large convention in Richfield with Cantril Nielsen of Hyrum elected governor of district 28-U and L. Sumner Pond of Grace chosen governor for Idaho. Logan was named the 1986 convention city, while speakers included Lions International President Vincent Hascall and Utah Governor Henry Blood. The event featured a banquet at Fish Lake, a governors ball, and extensive social activities for attendees.
Milford plans a full day of events led by the Milford Volunteer Fire department including sunrise flag raisings, a 9:30 parade, races, a 1 pm baseball game between Milford and Minersville, a 3 pm children’s dance, horse racing and a rodeo at the high school park, 7 pm boxing and wrestling at Atkin theatre, and a 9 pm fireworks display. An all night dance at Hanging Rock resort in Minersville canyon is planned for July 4, with a pre event dance July 3.
Mrs. Allen G. Hedges of Salt Lake City has visited with her sister Mrs. D. B. James and niece Mrs. J. P. Holm the past week.
The second year group of the 4 H club met at the high school on Thursday June 19 at 10 am to plan a picnic for June 26. Lunches is the project for the group with several outings planned. Officers include May Kelly president Cerola Heslington vice president Shirley Altman secretary treasurer Jane Yepsen reporter Katherine Martin song leader and Mrs Rue Nielsen club leader.
A business delegation toured the Desert Range Experiment station project fifty miles west of Milford to learn how the forest service area aids semi-desert western Utah and eastern Nevada. Selar Hutchings directed the visit with assistant Ben Stahman, praising a year of notable progress across 55,000 acres.
Active workers urge supporters to subscribe now to boost votes for scholarship candidates before the campaign ends next Tuesday. Promises and subscriptions are pushed to maximize votes and daily commissions, stressing the risk of losing votes if delayed and the chance for rivals to gain.
The state engineer announces a pamphlet titled Water Laws of Utah issued by his office. Priced at 25 cents, it covers underground water passage under the 1935 legislative changes and guides on filing claims and appropriations for underground waters.
The report lists La Mar Outzen and J. C. Root as upcoming president and vice president of the local club along with official delegates to the convention. Attending with spouses are O. C. Koch the present president and Mrs. Koch, Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Hughes, Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Murdock, Mr. and Mrs. L. A. Wynaught, Mr. and Mrs. David S. Williams and H. T. Henks.
Milford Boy Scouts return from a five day camporee at Tick Creek recreation camp near Ceilay Breaks. About 830 scouts from Beaver, Tron, Washington, Kanee counties and Arizona attended under the Timpanogos council leadership. The Milford troop led by Owen W. Stoker and Raymond Easton contributed a large unit with Eagle Hawk and Black Panther patrols.
Miss Ruth Pool is assisting in the Milford State bank. The note records her role assisting at the bank, listing Milford as the location.
Evangelist Norman Eckman spoke at the Firemen’s hall on Sunday night linking the United States to Revelation’s lamb like beast. He warned of future laws that could restrict personal liberty and urged opposition to Sunday legislation amid Roman Catholic and Protestant church dynamics. The service featured Mr. Eckman’s arguments and next week’s topic focuses on why he is a Seventh Day Adventist.
The Clover Leaf club met June 24 with talks on etiquette for dances by Betty Jean Berry and on footwork by Joan Hickman. Vera Jeffers and Yoshiko Imai demonstrated muffing while the girls practiced. Meetings occur Mondays and Thursdays at 6:00 AM at the ball park practice hall to prepare for interclub play. Assignment for the next meeting was given.
The National Reemployment Service office for Beaver county, opened in 1988, has moved to Cedar City. Manzione remains contact for Beaver—spending two days weekly—while Cedar handles the work. Voluntary registrars Lamar Outzen and Mr. Nolder will renew applicant cards in the west end of Beaver county.
An account of Civilian Conservation Corps Company 1964 formed July 28 1934 with 24 enrollees at Beaver Mountain camp in the Fort Douglas district. The unit rapidly grew to 235 members from July 27 to August 2 led by Captain James M Walker with Lieutenants Blincoe Squier and Prake. A welcoming opening party and dance at the camp drew local townsfolk before the party prepared for a winter camp 100 miles west.
The Eleven Sparks 4 H Club met June 19 at the high school with roll call and minutes. Peggy Lee spoke on daily courtesy while teams were chosen and the club constitution was adopted. Members toured Milford hotel to learn proper hotel etiquette. Next meeting is Wednesday at 1 PM at the high school.
October 18 1954 report covers movement west of Milford Utah from hills to Desert Range Station. Describes boxing wrestling and a baseball game, a big evening dance, deer hunting near Camp DF 14, and a shift to barracks over tents. Capt James M Walker Lt Einar M Bergstrom, Frake promoted to captain and left Moapa Nevada camp. May 2 1935 word arrives that dreuth relief camp status ends. Company 1964 adds many new men but retains many original builders.
The American Legion Auxiliary held its meeting at Mrs. Ardath Outsen’s home. Officers for the coming year were elected: Vera Yepsen president Erma Cline first vice president Ora Fotheringham second vice president Ethel Smith secretary Mary Nichols treasurer Edna Baker historian Magdalena White sergeant at arms Lauriel Lewis chaplain. After business the group played bridge with Vera Yepsen and Kida Baker winning prizes.
Members of the American Legion Auxiliary enjoyed a Saturday evening social and shower. Mrs Angie Lyman Root received many useful and beautiful gifts. Bridge prizes were won by Mrs O Smith and Mrs Edina Baker.
