Bond Wagon to Visit Milford in Deser t Schooner Tour

The Bond Wagon, described as an authentic desert schooner, will stop in Milford on Monday June 27 at 4 p m with an escort from the high school band and local officials. Homer Thompson of Beaver County bond drive chairs the event, and band sales will be available along Main Street.

New Travel Booklet Issued By Utah Oil Co

The Utah Oil Refining Company has published a 64 page booklet titled Travel Hints, distributed free at stations. Cedar City manager T D Washburn notes strong interest. The guide covers Idaho Utah and Western Wyoming with 333 points of interest, highlighting attractions accessible by automobile and encouraging scenic trips along major highways.

Elders Push White Market To Extra Inning In Girls League Plan

Elders edge White Market 15 14 after an extra inning as U Ren Lish and Myers powered the Elders with extra base hits while Jimmie Hickman and Leech led the Market. College All Stars defeated the Texans 25 0 in a nightcap. Three ladies softball teams are forming with the league starting June 29. Over 315 children attended the first week of summer recreation with rising turnout in week two.

Junior Legion Drops Opener to Beaver Nine

Milford Junior Legion opened the 1949 season with a 13 to 5 loss to Beaver Junior Legionnaires at Beav er Monday. Cedar City visit Milford on Wednesday, June 22. Clyde Turner started and yielded eight runs despite good control. Beaver hitters produced the runs as Jiminez pitched the rest for Milford.

University of Utah Opera Festival Plans Star Cast

The University of Utah summer festival will stage The Great Waltz and Carmen under the stars at the stadium bowl from July 4. Kitty Carlisle Robert Rounseville and Gwen Hawthorne head the cast with Lowell Lees directing and Maurice Abravanel as musical director. Ticket prices include $3 reserved for single shows, $5 for both. $1.20 single general admission, $1.80 for both. Orders to the Stammer Festival Office, Salt Lake City. Frank Pryor of Minersville hospitalized June 15 with a heart attack.

Milford Horse Race Meet Opens With 175 Thoroughbreds

The Milford track debuts a new starting gate as 175 thoroughbreds gather for the first postwar race meet running Thursday to Saturday. Blaine Larsen starts the opener. Vance Fisher plans non stop entertainment and better viewing with paddock access and expanded spectator stands.

Dan Thompson Dies of Heart Ailment in SLC

Dan Thompson 26 died Tuesday in Salt Lake City from a heart ailment while en route to Milford. He worked for the Northern Pacific Railroad in Livingston, Montana. Born August 19, 1922 in Minersville, he served in the U S Navy in 1942 and lived as a railroad worker since discharge. Survived by parents Earl D. and Essie Grossman Thompson and six siblings. Funeral in Minersville Saturday at 2 p.m.

Judge’s Court Fines Three Transients for Drunkenness

In Koch Court last week Pete S. Reyes was fined ten dollars on a drunkenness charge. Edison Tsosle, another transient, received a ten dollar fine for drunkenness. Willie D. Bla, transient, also cited on a drunkenness charge and fined ten dollars.

Day old son of Mr and Mrs Marvin Horton died at Milford Hospital at 11 30 am Wednesday A graveside service is planned for Thursday at 4 30 pm in Milford Cemetery with burial rites conducted by local clergy.
