Milford journalist visits from Los Angeles

Mr Xari Carlton of Los Angeles, longtime owner of The News and Beaver Press, is visiting Milford at the home of his son and daughter-in-law. He dropped by The News office and promised a feature story for next week on Milford Then and Now, noting uncertainty about how many columns will suffice to cover changes since he became a Milford citizen.

United Service to China drive begins for aid

The sixth annual United Service to China appeal opens, directed by Mrs Loretta Cline for Milford Valley citizens. Donations via mailed envelopes with self addressed return mail support med ical aid, feeding, recreation, health centers, and education in China to aid wartime relief and repay those who helped American servicemen.

Farnsworth outlines Utah industrial future to chamber

Ken Farnsworth of the Utah State Department of Public and Industrial Development told the Chamber of Commerce that Utah sits at the edge of vast industrial potential with 210 minerals known, coal reserves lasting centuries, and major iron deposits. He urged compiling location data for plants and reducing freight-rate discrimination that hurts western industry. Milford booster Clif McShane noted rising wells, and Milford plans to publicize industrial, farming expansion while local efforts raise funds for a resuscitator for the Volunteer Fire Department.

Local dairymen join Merchandise campaign

Beaver County dairy farmers will join neighbors statewide to support the American Dairy Association national programs for Sales Not Surplus. Plans call for advertising, merchandising and research to develop new outlets for milk butter cheese and other dairy foods funded by voluntary deductions on milk checks in June. County Agent Glen Baird praised farmers for backing ADA and explained the program finances are provided by producers through one cent per pound of butterfat delivered for 30 days. Local plants Beaver Whidd Cheese Co Brooklawn Creamery Co will participate by making June bulletfat deductions. The ADA campaign will be led by the June Daily Month merchandising event Butter Days Here Again with ads in national magazines outdoor campaigns and retail tie-ins.

Local Notes From Milford Area Hospital and Homes

Mrs Earl Limb of South Mit ford was in the hospital this week for medical treatment. Mrs Sadie Griffiths has been very ill with asthma, but is parted in proving. Betty Cook, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Cook, was released from the hospital Wednesday after receiving treatment for janet bites. Ralph Allsup, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Allsup, injured his foot while swimming this week and is now confined to the hospital with blood poisoning. Two more births reported, Shirl W Nichols named Shirl. Howard Lund released from Milford hospital after throat infection treatment. Douglas Farnow of Los Angeles joined his wife Colleen and baby at Milford this week. Mrs Farnow had been visiting in Minersville and Milford. Mr and Mrs Rey Mills of Lynndyl will join the couple Saturday for camping at Fish Lake. Mama and Daddy Osborn will care for the Mills children of Lynndyl while parents vacation.

Farrer to Leave Milford for Davis High posting

Principal Kenneth C. Farrer of Milford High will move to Davis High School to teach next year and serve as senior advisor to Davis students. He previously taught at Minersville, led Milford’s accreditation push, and organized a student chorus that earned high praise.

Milford Plans Centennial Parade and Race Meet

Milford prepares a packed centennial program for June 25 and 26 led by the Silver Desert Camp and Daughters of Utah Pioneers in the LDS chapel. Queen Robins will attend, with a pioneer parade, greased pig race, musical chairs, tug of war, and an evening dance and show. Merchants close early to aid festivities, and the Chamber of Commerce Race Meet Committee reports a strong field of western stables for the Southern Utah meet.

Race Meet Queen Contest Sparks Spirited Voting

Ajahna Hardy, Mil ford high School Class of 1947, leads the Race Meet Queen race with 1288 votes at Milford Cafe. Barbara Lewis Mayer trails with 418 votes via a vote bottle at the Sportsmen's Club, while Wayma Nesley sits third with 98 votes at Ross Baxter's Recreation paddler. Contest rules restrict Milford Valley residents ages 1 to 25 who are skilled horsewomen. top prizes include a complete western outfit for the queen and outfits for the runners-up.

Centennial Exposition Highlights Salt Lake City Events

Statewide centennial events unfold at the Utah Centennial Exposition and Fair Grounds in Salt Lake City. The program features a June comic opera “Pinafore” by the American Savoy Company at the Exposition theater, a death Dodgers grandstand event, a pageant at the Tabernacle, and a 2021 NCAA field meet at Ute Stadium with Leonard Warren, opera baritone, as soloist.
