Death Claims Camp Delano CCC Recruit A Pryor

A Pryor a 21 year old private first class in the regular army linked to CCC camps in Beaver County died after abdominal abscesses and obstructions post appendectomy. He was shipped home from Salt Lake City on train 22. Camp Delano adds Lt Kraus and Mrs Kraus as new staff as recruitment plans pursue 8500 more men to fill quotas by July 15.

Fires Averted by Prompt Volunteer Fire Action

Quick action by Mel Heslington wood shed fire brigades saved the Valley Creamery area from a potentially disastrous blaze. That evening a granary fire at Carl Elmer residence in South Milford was stopped, and on July 4th a third alarm confined to a machine in the Victory theatre operating room. One roll of film from the feature Dangerously Yours was destroyed and the machine down for days.

Hillin Parowan Gold Rush Discovered East of Parowan

Surface ore near Parowan yields gold at about 3 dollars per ton. The Red hill area within Parowan city limits has been located with claims filed by E B Jackson of Greeley Colorado and Claude Thompson of Texas. Initial digs show ore deepening with depth and a vein may run over one and a half miles. A mining expert will assess ground soon and a mill is planned if results satisfy. The strike ties to a 50 year old prospect hole by Peter Foutz, Parowan’s early resident.

Poor Water Outlook for Beaver River Irrigation

The Beaver area outlook for a second alfalfa crop worsens as Kent Iske water storage has run into the Beaver River. Beach land farmers fear this supply will run dry before summer storms restore flow.

Milford Lions Plan Goodwill Tour To Lehman Caves Ely

Milford Lions Club held a noon luncheon with routine matters. A committee of L A Wynaught D S Williams and J R Murdock was named to set a date and arrange a goodwill tour of Southern Utah civic groups to Lehman Caves and Ely Nevada in the near future. Harold Cline presided at his first meeting as club president, with F D Conyers present as a guest.

Outsiders Visit King David Mine Promising Prospect

L N Morrison a leading Salt Lake mining figure and president of Tintio Lead, with guests from Utah and California, visited the King David property west of Milford. The King David shaft has reached 750 feet with a large station to be cut for lateral work to 770 feet. drilling aims to test the drum fissure and intersections with Grampian limestone as development intensifies.

Popular Store Man Weds in Lively Milford Arrival

A well known Milford store man married Miss Ruth Whitaker of Centerville after a Beaver ceremony. The couple, joined by Bruce Walton, were greeted by chivaree amid hometown welcomes. Mrs Ruby Cole and daughter Mary from Pocatello arrived for an extended Milford visit.

St Louis Lions Club Meet Draws Noted Speakers

The Seventeenth Annual Convention of the International Association of Lions Clubs opens in St Louis July 11 to 14 with a strong speaker lineup including Lorado Taft on Beauty in American Life and Yale economist Irving Fisher on inflation and deflation. Prizes total 3500 with 500 for the best stunt, and Lions maintain expo space at Chicago Century of Progress. Local notes report surgery for Mrs Ward Hood and family updates from Fillmore and Beaver.

Wheat farmers in Utah to receive cash benefits under new plan

The Agriculture Adjustment Administration will pay cash benefits to Utah wheat farmers this fall, likely by September 15, under a plan requiring reduced planted acreage. Utah ranks 23rd in wheat production with about five and a half million bushels on roughly 29 thousand acres.
