Milford to decide on Little League next year

Milford residents face a January meeting to set whether a local Little League team or softball programs will continue or be expanded in a national program. Jaycee sponsors urge representatives and parental involvement to support a viable program. Last year Cedar City Little League advanced through district and state to nationals, winning all games except the final.

Jaycees Plan Olympic Fund Drive

First activities of the local Jaycee Olympic Fund Drive will be passing the sheet at halftime of the basketball games on Dec. 28 and Jan. 6. The National Jaycees, cooperating with other national organizations, help raise funds to pay expenses of athletes to the annual world Olympic Games.

Coordinating Council Sets Organization Date

A Coordinating Council will organize on Thursday January 12 to aid in arranging dates and assist with planning of community activities. The meeting is set for the evening at the LDS Church and all royal organizations are urged to send a delegate.

Fish and Game Buys Pheasant Cover Land

The Utah Department of Fish and Game announced the purchase of an 80 acre property in South Milford. The uncultivated land opposite the Community Clubhouse has long served as a pheasant nesting and sheltering area and will provide winter feed and escape cover. It will be open to hunting during the regalia annual pheasant season.

Mrs Anderson to head cancer drive in Western Beaver County

Mrs. Grant Anderson of Milford was named the Western Beaver County cancer chairman. The announcement came from Walter M Jones, president of the Utah Division of the American Cancer Society.

A Utah Education Association bulletin shows Beaver District 1953-54 finances with 23.19 mill levy vs 27.90 state average, per child valuation higher than average, lower teacher salaries, and 72.2 percent of 10th graders graduating in 1954. It notes 1953-54 certificated staff, enrollment trends, and state uniform funds boosting Beaver.

Milford Christmas Festivities Highlight City Decor and Events

Residents admire outstanding home decorations as Judging of the home and business lighting contest proceeds with prizes of 10, 7.50, and 5. Kids meet Santa at the B and J Club at 10 a.m. Saturday with a free treat and stockings distribution at 4 p.m. UP Depot. Christmas tree stockings at Bank Corner, dance at the Legion Hall, carols by loudspeaker, and a joint LDS Church program Sunday featuring the Junior Oratorio Society in a public appearance with a grand choral sing.

Christmas visits and birth announced in local note

Mrs. Emma Walker plans Friday departure to join her son in law and daughter Mr and Mrs Chris Nolan for Christmas. Mrs Elsie Draper in Salt Lake City to spend holidays with her children. A daughter weighing 8 lbs 14 oz was born to Mr and Mrs Paul MH Palmer of Las Vegas. The little lady is named Sharon Adel. Mrs Palmer is the former Beverly Weston of Milford.

Milford Band and Chorus Honor Large Audience

Milford High School Band and Chorus under Rolla V. Johnson presented a polished program last Friday evening to a large enthusiastic crowd. Accompanists Gayle Edwards and Iola Young led seven chorus numbers including Christmas selections. Edwards performed a piano solo, Harriet Cline a saxophone solo, and Margaret Whittaker with Julie McWhorter gave a musical reading. The band offered varied numbers and the audience joined in singing Christmas carols.

Tigers Get Revenge For Loss To Panguitch

Milford Tigers avenge a prior defeat by Panguitch with a 50 32 victory at Milford after leading 9 8 in the first quarter and 25 19 at halftime. Fred Wright and Neal Smyth fueled the comeback with Smyth delivering deceptive passes and a late layup as Panguitch closed within one point with six minutes left. Next home game is December 28 against Enterprise.
