Man shoots own horse for deer in Kaibab forest

A Los Angeles native, unnamed in print, rode into Kaibab forest to hunt venison. After hours of no sign, he fired at a deer but struck his own horse. The incident occurred about 10 miles from camp and 60 miles from Los Angeles.

Death of Elna Williams in Panguitch Home Visit

Elna Williams aged 19 died at her sister Mrs J R Jeffers home in Panguitch after a sudden illness following a week of serious sickness. She was an orphan, daughter of the late Mr and Mrs W S Williams, and survived by four sisters Mrs J G Jeffers Milford Mrs Mary Peters Provo Mrs Guy Hamblin Provo and Mrs Walter Bozarth Las Vegas. A brief service conducted by Bishop Bird was held Thursday morning and burial will be at Parowan.

Mrs. Freda Outzen presents Milford's latest library report showing 1471 visitors in a month on a town population of 1500. Lions and Dairymen Sponsor Minersville Party

Lions Club and Escalante Valley Dairymen and Farmers Association plan a get together at Minersville High School Friday night with dancing, a plate supper, and a membership drive. Transportation is arranged for attendees lacking a car.

Farm Wool Clip Contracted in County Pool

Practically all county farm wool, 6866 fleeces, have been pooled and sold through the National Wool Marketing Corporation. A $1.00 per fleece down payment has been received and will be mailed after draft clearance in eight to ten days. Cooperative marketing seen as logical for the industry, given delayed final payments under independent arrangements.

Commissioners Hold Two Meetings On County Matters

On Friday December 5 the county commissioners held their regular session approving bills and discussing road matters and indigent allowances. A janitor salary was cut from 40 to 24 dollars per month and talks continued on a county inspector of meats and perishable goods with Lions clubs proposing funding thirds. A Monday session finalized the county budget while Beaver Lions sought North Creek Will work but weather and timing halted progress.

Emblem Meeting Plans Christmas Banquet and Theater

The B P Women Emblem group arranged the Christmas banquet at Union Pacific dining room for 6 45 p m with gifts exchanged and toasts. After the dinner members will attend the theater and review next week's dinner plans. The program featured Our Emblem and Emblem Ethics readings by Mrs Jane Lang and Arvilla Muir with emblem songs by Erma Gillies. The January meeting will focus on education.

Dr Huch Burgess examined 452 Milford public school students 167 in the high school and 285 in the elementary school. Of these 65 were found with defective eyes or poor vision. Parents will be notified and advised to treat defects. county aid is available if needed.

Wild Animal Census Taken in Big Flat District

Ranger Cox reports the Big Flat District of Fishlake National Forest hosts over 7,000 mule deer and 50 snowshoe hares. Predators include 70 lynx and wild cats, 100 coyotes, 100 porcupines, and 10 mountain hens. The figures cover both slopes of the Tushar Mountains from Indian Creek and Gold Gulch.

Milford High schedules fall basketball league games and travel plan

Milford High school will play five league games at home and five away as agreed at a meeting of Delta Fillmore Minersville Beaver and Hinckley representatives at Cedar. An annual transportation assessment of 10.65 will cover one bus per school for away games.

Clubs Fail In Meet On Transients Feeding Plan

The Lions Club and local churches discussed forming an organization to feed and shelter indigent transients this winter. The city board opposed advertising the plan fearing an influx of undesirables, and leaders signaled caution or denial, preferring not to burden churches.

Wilson Fined Fifty Dollars on Liquor Charge

Wilson pleaded guilty to intoxication at arraignment before Justice Bert Nichols on Friday morning. He was arrested Thursday night for intoxication at the Union Pacific Hotel and caused a disturbance with restaurant staff. Roy Coleman, city marshal, jailed him overnight. He was released after paying the fifty dollar fine.
