Hospital Notes Update on Local Patients

Zuma Martin is in the hospital for observation and care and is reported as improving. Florence Beard underwent a major operation on Nov 30. Adeline Johnson is recovering from a heart ailment. Marion Jameson of Minersville was in hospital two days this week for medical treatment. Albert Raines is improving after treatment. George Baker is recuperating after a major operation. Kenneth Frazier is in hospital for care and treatment. A T Miller was released Tuesday after treatment for a badly sprained ankle. Ralph Thompson was released Wednesday evening after treatment for influenza.

Briefs About People From a Utah Area Christmas Visits

Mr Benjamin Cameron Jr of St George visited his daughter and son in law, en route home after attending the Pacabureau convention in Richfield. He was a delegate from Washington County. Fay Bradfield and son Tommy plan Christmas at Bakersfield California with Doyle Hegland family. Jennie Colbarn of Lava Hot Springs Idaho visits her son Robert Colbarn’s home. Calborn is 91 and still dances and will be with Milford Colborns after Christmas. Van Memmott and daughter spent weekend in Caliente with Memmott's mother Bernice Lane. Virginia Beddingfield and children return from Salt Lake. Lorelie Dawson and Billie in Salt Lake this week. LaMar Morris back from Salt Lake Monday night. Roy Latrum undecided on a name for baby daughter born Nov 9 at Fillmore Hospital. Thurland D Sly in Cedar City visiting her father in Iron County hospital.

Second Ward Notes M1A Road Show Delights Milford Crowd

Beaver Stake MTA Road Show drew a packed Milford LD 8 Rec Hall audience on December 2. Seven wards presented original fifteen minute solos with the Milford Second Ward using purple theme colors and lilac lighting to symbolize blooming as Americans think of homeland. The finale had the cast singing God Bless America with audience participation. Junior and Senior Sunday School participants Dixie Rae Roberts Tone Crane Ruth Ligh and Farrell Ligh were noted, along with six deacons aiding Sacrament services last Sunday.

Tigers Schedule Two Basketball Games This Weekend

The Milford Tigers plan a return bout with Hurricane and a Saturday benefit game with the Milford M-Men. Proceeds will support the M-Men basketball program and the Bulldog Club football lighting fund. Next week they host Lincoln High of Nevada then play Dixie in a return match.

Spanish Fork Hereford Bull Sale Set for Dec 14

The annual Spanish Fork Hereford Bull sale will be held at the Spanish Fork Livestock Auction barns on December 14 with about 55 bulls from roughly 20 Utah breeders. Bulls to be sold are grade B or better after a 10 a.m. judging show, auction begins at 12:30 p.m. Auctioneer is Charles Adams of Arcadia California. Ralph D. Winterton, Utah Hereford Association president, announced the consignments and sale details.

Minersville native Karl Truman joins Beaver County Board of Education

Karl Truman of Minersville was elected to the Beaver County Board of Education, succeeding Truman Bradfield. In the December 6 election, 111 votes were cast for Truman and 59 for his opponent, Thursday Eyre, who did not seek re election.

Legion to Complete Hall This Weekend

Milford Legionnaires started work on the old basement in Library Park last Sunday. Commander Bud James said the job should finish this weekend with the hall ready for occupancy, as windows doors lights and trim are installed and the space prepared for temporary quarters.

City Council Prepares Budget for Next Year

City fathers held a Wednesday session focusing on shaping the coming year's budget for adoption at the next board meeting on December 20. They also passed an ordinance making lighting district assessments legal and heard a skating pond report. The pond is filled and awaiting a good freeze. once ice forms a thin water layer will smooth the surface, with plans to install lights for night skating.

Navy opens enlistment to more men with dependents

The U S Navy now accepts men with dependents for duty including those with no prior military service who are married with no children and unmarried men with one dependent. Veterans may enlist or reenlist in the first two pay grades with one dependent and in the upper five grades with any number of dependents. The mental test minimum was lowered while maintaining aim to recruit higher caliber personnel.

Minersville Relief Society to host annual Bazaar

The Minersville Relief Society under President Mrs Frieda Wood with counselors Mrs Vivian Marshall and Mrs Cruella Hall has chosen December 18 for the annual bazaar. Donations of antipesty goods will be sold. After the affair, the evening will feature games dancing and square dancing. A good crowd is expected. Other local notes include visits by Mr and Mrs Howard Marshall to Cedar City and the birth of a baby boy to Mr and Mrs Jay Rogers of Salt Lake City.
