Thirty-one men including twelve Beaver guests attended a Lions Club luncheon at Milford Hotel Cafe. Talks covered county affairs, dairy and meat inspections, road and tax issues, and plans for future joint meetings and local service projects.
A letter from Mrs A J Louis of Long Beach California encloses $2.00 for one year of Milford News and praises the Minorsville Notes and county news, expressing how it feels like a letter from home and inviting continuation.
A large crowd attended the Milford public school P T A meeting Monday evening featuring a fine program from the grades. The new county school nurse could not attend but will begin duties December 5 with adult classes. Mrs M H Pool presided. seventh grade performed a lever play and a musical program was held with impromptu remarks from several local leaders.
The Scott Tanner family left for Huntington Park California for several weeks with a leisurely trip stopping at points of interest. Several residents are noted visiting or journeying including Miss Laurel Decker in Las Vegas and Miss Agnes White in Richfield. An American Legion meeting and social occurred at the IL OO F Hall. Visitors include Mrs P Duffy from Los Angeles and Mrs Eldon Taft from Parowan. Residents moving include H C Yeager to Caliente and Walter Carlton to Caliente from Lynndyl.
C. E. Haskell, a local farmer and seed buyer, begins loading a carload of alfalfa seed today and plans to continue Saturday. He has bought about fifty thousand pounds from Snake Valley Milford flats Beaver Bottoms, with twenty-four thousand from Snake Valley and twenty-six thousand from Milford and Beaver areas. The crop quality is down and weed seed is higher. thistle seed prevented purchase from two or three farmers. The car should carry about two hundred thirty sacks, each roughly one hundred sixty pounds.
Republicans contest Beaver’s municipal election tally claiming spoiled ballots were mishandled and that voters outside the city limits voted. The suit seeks review in District Court with Judge LeRoy Cox setting December 13 for the hearings.
The management expresses thanks for numerous subscription renewals received this week. Space limits prevent a full list. dates on papers will be updated in a few days to reflect corrected records. Readers’ responses to renewal notices are described as pleasing testimonials.
Myrtle Mills won the bedroom set in Cline's Stock Adjustment and Sales Campaign with Macel Horton taking second for an Atwater Kent radio. Tauretta Murdock finished third as the full six prizes were awarded after judging by Mrs. A. J. Atkin Dr. L. F. Kohler and Robert Akin.
A series of gatherings was held during Mrs. Markham's stay. Mrs. Rue Neilsen hosted a waffle breakfast Friday morning with guests Mrs. Kesler Mrs. Kinney Mrs. Fernley and Mrs. Markham. Friday afternoon Mrs. M. P. Lewis gave a luncheon for Mrs. Markham and Mrs. J. M. Kinney with fortune telling as the entertainment. Other guests included Mrs. Rue Neilson Mrs. George Fernley Mrs. Joseph R. Murdock Mrs. Clark Kesler and Mrs. Frank Farmer of Lynndyl.
Adamsville residents Arthur Merideth and family visited Beaver with Mr and Mrs Henry Larsen. Bishop Charles Johnson and wife spent the weekend in Salt Lake City. John Pearce and family held a Thanksgiving dinner for relatives. Mrs Dan Stewart from Pioche Nev visited. W A Reese and family spent Thanksgiving in Salt Lake City. Young girls visited Beaver during school holidays. Earnest Joseph from Beaver visited R A Joseph. Mrs Sarah A Jones and John R Griffiths drove to Beaver. Milk truck drivers Melborn Limb and Wallace Limb covered Tolton milk in Parley Lang’s absence. John Pearce family and Margaret Pearce spent late week in Provo and Love View. Jasper Puffer Loyal Baldwin drove to Milford Project and Milford on Saturday. Joe Perkins and family from a ranch south of Milford visited Beaver Tuesday evening.
Mr and Mrs Fern Ley hosted a Thanksgiving Day dinner with chrysanthemums and tall yellow candles. Guests included Mr and Mrs Rue Neilson Mr and Mrs James Lang and Mr and Mrs Gus Fernley and family of Beaver.
The C C C Club met Monday evening at Mrs. Charles Crawford Sr.s home. Members played “S00” with prizes awarded to Mrs. Charles Crawford Jr as club prize Mrs. Wayne Lyman as guest prize and Mrs. Sadie Jones as consolation prize. Refreshments followed.
The Harvest Ball takes place this Friday at Arion Hall hosted by the Moon and the Gleaner Girls. Next Saturday the American Legion Auxiliary opens the holiday dance season with a public ballet at Arion Hall.
Charles Booth of Milford was released Monday after fifteen days of a sixty day sentence for passing bad checks.
The Saturday afternoon bridge club gathered at Mrs. Jack Williams home. Prizes went to Mrs. Kenney for high points, Mrs. Copeland for high honors, and Mrs. Rue Neilson for consolation with a guest of honor prize to Mrs. Kinney. A luncheon was served at three small tables featuring Mesdames Copeland Sloan George Fernley C E Moore J M Kinney Kesler Cochrane J C Rodgers Murdock Neilson W W Markham Salt Lake City and L Eden Pomona California.
On Saturday evening Mr and Mrs Jack Langenbacker were honored at a banquet in the U P dining room, hosted by the ladies of the G T A to B of L BE. Several couples attended including W G White A E Smith Frank Smith Mrs Otto Steenbock and others. Mrs Langenbacker received a beautiful present. The group later gathered at Mrs J C Jeffers home where bridge games were played with Mrs Steenbock taking high score.
Saturday evening Miss Katherine Memford hosted at Mrs George Litchfield’s home a handkerchief shower for Helen Kinney who leaves Sunday for Los Angeles California. Hearts game featured with Ruth Pool winning prize and Myrl Hall receiving consolation. A luncheon followed for Helen Kinney and guests Helen Parsons Keile Frasier Martelle King Rut Sarah Pool Myrl Hall.
A lively audience at Victory Theatre witnessed Milford dry goods stores display the latest gowns and wraps. The B P W Club sponsored the event with hair models from local shops and a solo dance by Caroline Clay. Models represented J C Jenney's Progressive Clothes The Toggery Claudia's Paris Beauty Shoppes.
Rev H E Root of the Methodist church announces pre Christmas services starting December with "December B" as the theme. December 8 features "The Magi" and December 15 "The Shepherds" with a Nativity Tableau on December 22 directed by Mrs Harry Woods. The Sunday School Christmas program is Monday December 28 featuring "Fast Company" and its hero.
A lively Milford group will gather Monday at nine o'clock to clear weeds and brush from Milford Cemetery. Sponsored by the Cemetery Improvement Association, they invite all residents to help make the grounds presentable.
Father J. D. Lagen will say Mass here Thursday morning in the Odd Fellows Hall at nine o'clock. Walter McCully, a UD SAC student, was home for Thanksgiving.
