Truck Tips Over in Canal. Two Hurt Near Minersville Road

A high loaded Hales Trucking Co. truck overturned in the canal at the Minersville road junction near Beaver just before noon. Driver William Owens escaped with a broken shoulder and minor injuries to passenger Rayon Smith who had taken the wheel. Load of highway tile flour and debris was nearly lost. both were taken to Milford for treatment by Dr. Parrish. Owens returned home Wednesday while Miss Smith remained with her uncle George Rogers. Local Safeway manager P J Williams had stationed watchmen at the scene to aid in the emergency.

Use commercial dry cleaning solvent with flash point above 100F and avoid naphtha gasoline due to explosion risk. Follow a three vessel system with benzine soap in the first, rinse steps in second and third, and keep the third vessel clean as evaporation proceeds.

M Mullen Funeral Held in Long Beach California

Funeral services were held in Long Beach California for Jessie M McMullen 67 wife of Arch J McMullen a longtime Milford resident connected with Beaver Gold and Copper company. Survived by husband daughter Virginia McMullen son Jack McMullen one grandson sister Mrs William Harris and brother John Yates all in Long Beach Los Angeles respectively.

Water Carnival Declared Best Yet in Milford

Milfords second annual water carnival at the Lions pool drew a large enthusiastic crowd. The event highlighted diving and life saving displays and stroke demonstrations. Winners included Harry Russey and Howard Tanner in 25 yard free style open and Dan Gilles in 19 12 boys. La Vera Connell topped girls 10 12 and Ken Sherwood won under water open.

Legion Nominates Officers After Annual Election

The American Legion held its annual officer election on Tuesday afternoon. New officers include J. M. Hughes post commander Theodore Kronholm first vice commander Stan McKnight second vice commander Myron Lewis finance officer Ezra Lyman adjutant J. M. Christensen chaplain Leonard Bowen historian O R Smith sergeant at arms and the executive committee trio of Charles R. Parrish Sam Cline and Val Yeppson. Mrs H T Hanks and daughter Jane visited Miss Margaret Peterson before returning to Los Angeles after a Milford stay.

New Method for Shaft Driving Attracts Attention

Frank W. Cangy announces a new subaqueous rock blasting method using dropping bombs on a heavy steel shaft to fracture rock. It promises faster sinking of mine shafts with minimal equipment and safety advantages, and he heads to Buckskin mine in Humboldt County to test feasibility for a five by ten foot shaft at 100 feet per week.

Visitors at the Chicago World’s Fair heard a coded set of numbers from the top of a dark slide. Each number flagged the rider’s appearance, from childlike to adult, with eleven and forty nine signaling especially revealing cases.
