Thornton prep squads eye a spring season with varsity Frank Froschauer directing the varsity and Tom Nisbet leading the frosh sophs. The team plans a Chi CAEO Suburban league schedule with each school meeting twice for about 14 games. The weather holds hopes for outdoor practice as preparations begin.
Several schools in the league show prospects of Whortori’s varsity nine being fairly bright for the coming season. Experienced material surrounds the team, with members who have played high school ball and some American Legion experience, suggesting a strong build for the season.
The war department announced it will send letters and forms to next of kin of American World War II dead to indicate preferred final burial. Over 20,000 letters will go to relatives within 18 months for remains already identified and beyond continental U S burial limits.
The American Legion marks its founding with events across Sept site Vd. Day observes growth of younger veterans joining daily. Rehabilitation hospitals and war injury relief are noted as key ongoing efforts.
Mike Oleshko, 17, and Richard Bakker, 21, both of Midlothian, enlisted in the Army this week. Mike has been assigned to the 1st Cavalry Division, which liberated American prisoners in the Philippines and is based in Tokyo. He will soon be on his way over, per the recruiting officer. his exact assignment is not yet named.
