Vice President James Schoolcraft Sherman died last night at 9 42 after a period of illness marked by coma and kidney trouble. Born in Utica October 24 1855 he was just over 57. President Taft wept at the Brooklyn banquet upon news and suspended proceedings. The nation then faced a vacancy until March 4 next and Sherman’s name remained on the Republican ticket with Taft unless the electors change.
