Bridge Party at the Golf Club Saturday Next

Chester Marine Hoyt Killed in Action at 31

New York June 26 reports Chester boy Private Wesley A Hoyt among marine casualties killed in action. Son of the late Mr. and Mrs Winfield S Hoyt of Chester and grandson of James W Hoyt once sheriff and assembly member for the district. Survived by sister Loretta Hoyt and brother Harry 8 Hoyt of New York.

MacGowan Joins Times Press Editorial Staff

Horace A MacGowan is named city editor of the Times-Press effective July 1. He brings 25 years in Middletown journalism and previous roles at the Argus Mercury, New York Sun, and other outlets. Democrats in Session at the Mitchell Inn

The Democratic county committee executive met at Mitchell Inn at 2 PM to discuss the political situation and consider primary candidates. If a decision is reached, no further county committee meeting will be held. The State Democratic committee meets in New York City on Thursday. C Chester Bogart will attend. Norwich Man Killed Crossing O W Railroad

Willis Wightman a 50 year old driver for Chenango Steam Laundry was killed instantly Monday at 3 pm on Rexford street when a southbound New York Ontario and Western milk train struck his wagon. The horse was thrown 369 yards as Wightman, possibly faint or unaware, failed to heed the flagman. Coroner Wilcox and Breese ambulance were notified. Wightman lived on Mitchell street and leaves a brother in France.

Large July draft mobilization under Crowder plan

About 125 000 registrants undivided by race are called for service as Crowder announces July mobilization. Entrainment begins July 3 with 27 000 whites, plus 225 000 to be mobilized July 22 to 25 and earlier specials, totaling about 368 000 for July. New York quotas include 3 500 whites to Camp Humphreys Virginia July 5 to 9 and 1 000 colored to Camp Dix New Jersey July 16 to 20.

Program Given at Stratton Strives in Class of 1918 Night

The program at Stratton last evening highlighted class of 1918 members who received various prizes and were praised for their excellent work. The event honored several winners with high recognition from an audience of peers and teachers.

High School Graduation Honors and Prize Recitals

The High School class of 1918 received diplomas from President A. E. Hopkins. Scholarships and prizes were awarded to Frances Emir Jones for highest overall average, Talcott essay prize to Margaret Jane Drexel Clase, Clemson prizes to Alice Pearl Roth and Anthony Joseph Veraldi, and Dudley Livingston Hoy won the Clemson oratory prize. The program featured essays and orations on war themes, and a public presentation honored Principal W. A. Wilson for 25 years of service.
