Clerks Return to Their Work at Central New England
After two weeks of conferences a satisfactory agreement was reached between 74 clerks in the general office at Marybrook and railroad officials. On June 16 a nine hour day was ordered, replacing the former eight and a half hour day, which the clerks claimed violated their agreement from March 17, 1916. With a partial deadlock, mediators from the Brotherhood of Railroad Clerks, the United States Commission of Conciliation, and the State Department of Labor joined in efforts to adjust the dispute.
