Bill to cut down saloons in state
Albany reports amendments to the liquor tax law proposed by the state Senate taxation and retrenchment committee. If adopted, the bill would cut saloons in towns by 2000 and in smaller cities by 1100, setting one saloon per 360 inhabitants in those areas and one per 300 in towns under 55 000. The Detroit Driving Club has released its claim on the second of two weeks of Grand Circuit racing at the request of the Poughkeepsie club which will receive a week of racing. Detroit’s two weeks were to begin July 22 and conclude July 28. It is not stated whether horses will move to Poughkeepsie or if other changes follow.
