Police Bill Adopted By Legislature Militia Guarding New York Water
Albany Feb 23 the emergency police bill to relieve the First and Tenth Nation al Guard from protecting the New York City water supply passed with one dissent. It authorizes the Police Commissioner to appoint a special emergency force to guard the water supply with mayor and governor approval. The militia will be relieved once the force is created. Amendments allow sheriffs to remove officers for cause and exempt special policemen from civil service rules. The force will be separate though preferred in appointment for those on regular lists. The Wells bill increases naval personnel to 4500 and salaries for the commanding officer, with Welsh amendments on vocational restrictions.

AVY Recruiting Office Opened in Town by Navy Officers

The first annual ball of the Middletown Hebrew Association, held at the Masonic Temple on February 21, drew attendees from Monroe Ward Port Jervis and Goshen. No Cause Verdict in Damage Action at Goshen
In Goshen on February 22 a Supreme Court jury needed just three hours and fifteen minutes to deliver a no cause of action verdict in the case of John D. BottI against Peter Rasmussen. Damages for a crash while BottI was en route to Bloomington were disputed. BottI sought 39,000 dollars. Afterward Emma Caskey’s infant action proceeded with guardian ad litem. Judge Moxchauser scheduled multiple auto accident cases for Monday with Case No. 45 involving John H. Lee against Smith & Strebel Company and two similar auto injury actions.
