The Farm Bureau tractor school begins with about 36 in attendance from nearby counties. Prof. W. K. Blodgett of CerneH visits for two days with Prof. 3L H Banks directing sessions. Lectures run 9 am and 1 pm at the Farm Bureau office. labs at Empire Garage John Street 2 pm.
Saturday evening a small fire at The Show Shop was detected by employee Charles Alihsiar who found smoldering paper under the sieve near the rear trap andput it out with a hose. Smoke vanished before the first seven pictures as patrons gathered and police investigate.
Mr and Mrs Cornelius Horton Cares of 32 Hanford Street welcomed a son, Cornelius Richard, born January 30 at Middletown Sanitarium, correcting an earlier misstatement that named Cornelius Horton Gray.
Albany February 3 Associated Press reports resignations of key prison officials await Charles F Railigan, new State Superintendent of Prisons, as he assumes office this week. Names include deputy superintendent George W Frank Ha and superintendent H O Emerson D Hail. Colonel Edgar Jennings plans return after war service to seek reinstatement as Auburn prison warden. Also notes annual meeting of E L Tichenor Company with directors re-elected.
Liberty Street Parent Teacher Association holds its monthly meeting at the school on Tuesday afternoon at 3 45 oclock. Officers for the coming year will be elected and a large attendance is requested.
Goshen February 2 District Attorney Jonathan L Wilson Jr Justice Joseph Morschauser set February 13 for the trial of William Braun accused of shooting and killing his wife Minnie Braun at the James McGinnis farmhouse north of Middletown on November 25, 1918. Braun pleaded not guilty. a panel of 60 jurors was requested amid anticipated difficulties.
Justice Morzhauser grants motion to secure a jury. A new panel will be drawn this afternoon. Braun, a farmhand, became jealous after his wife traveled to New York City and Newark on November 21 1915 and did not return by 3 AM Friday. He shot her point blank, killing her instantly as they worked for James McGinnis near Middletown.
In Troyes France on February 3 a troop train from Chaumont to Brest collided with two German locomotives at Montferramney station killing American soldiers and injuring thirteen. The stranded men were en route to ships for home.

Special to the Times-Press reports Corporal Roy S. Howard earned the French War Cross for distinguished bravery in the July 14 drive. Howard joined the 15th New York Infantry, later the 369th, under Captain Hamilton Fish Jr. Orange County men joined through Arthur Becker of Goshen. Howard came from Newark, Delaware when his father served at the local colored church. A brother, George Howard, was a longtime chauffeur for Rev. J. H. McGuinness and also served in France.
On February 3 in Montgomery a funeral for Mary Latina Millspaugh at her brother William Millspaugh’s Prospect Terrace home was interrupted when the chimney fire began. Fire brigades arrived but water was unnecessary as a hand extinguisher quickly stopped the blaze. The over heated stove caused the fire, and services resumed about an hour later.
Washington Feb 3 Director General Hines told the Interstate Commerce Committee he does not believe in government ownership. He urged organizing a few large railways under close supervision and backed McAdoo'sHive Fear extension of control to permit permanent solvency. He warned that without action government control might end after the act’s twenty one year limit. Stanley Vail of Bell Telephone returns home able to go out after influenza recovery.
Rev M W Rice delivered his first Grace Church sermon at 11 oclock before about 149 worshippers. He spoke on The Treasure of the Christian Church highlighting Jesus Christ as the true treasure and fellowship, contrasting church riches with secular finance and noting attendance at the evening service.
Delegates and officers left today for Lockport to attend the annual New York State Grange session. Officers include Deer Alber Manning Otison County, Demuy George Ayes Bu ville, Delegate at Large H D Seele Goshen, with families from Unionville Warrick Stony Ford Marlboro and New Hamp ton. An offer is being made to hold the next session in this city. A dog poisoner has claimed another victim, L Mortimer Hulse of 33 Courtland Place offers $50 for information leading to the poisoner’s conviction.
Warsaw dispatch reports Kiev captured by Bolshevik forces. Geners Pettura’s troops defected, Ukraine government moves to Vinnytsia, rail links to Kiev disrupted as German troops attempt to maintain order amid Ukraine turmoil. London strike fever spreads as tube stations close.
The New York Republican delegation clashes over the House doorkeeper choice this week. Senator Calder backs Akin Tallman, Pratt’s secretary from Poughkeepsie. New Yorkers largely oppose James R. Mann as Speaker. Gillett of Massachusetts appears favored, with Longworth and Fess also backed. Four members may vote Mann for personal reasons: Dann of Rochester, Magee of Syracuse, Pratt of Poughkeepsie, and Parker of Salinger.
