Mrs Martha Short mourns the loss of Corporal G Fred Short of Co I 107th Infantry killed in action Sept 29. He wed Miss Mar Homing during a December furlough and is survived by his wife, mother, two half brothers Morris Van Hoverberg and Harry Van Hovenberg, plus many friends. He worked for O W prior to service and was active in At Sunday School. All four local Co I men from this place were killed in action.
New York December 21 first New York combat unit to return from France will be a negro infantry regiment the 369th formerly the 13th Regiment announced by Rodman J Wanamaker and Daniel G Reid of the Mayors Committee on Welcome to Homecoming Troops The 369th called The Black Watch on the Rhine has been in France 191 days and will be back within weeks The 369th nicknamed by a French general and the 165th Infantry are noted as among the most fighting units with strong Harlem and community ties mentioned in the notice The Times-Press forwarding copy from Paris includes the Christmas number of The Gas Attack published by the 27th American Division with Major General John F O Brien as honorary editor and filled with articles and illustrations
Ambrose Wesley, local aviator, returns from Government aviation service in Key West Florida with a sealed N-9 seaplane model. He photographed climbs to 3,300 feet during engine tests. The collection includes broken propeller fragments from rare crashes due to thorough training.
Gilbert H. Benedict, previously editor of the Kangston and most recently editor of the Saratoga Sun, will assume the post of editor of the Catskill Mail shortly after the first of the coming month.

In New York this afternoon the Dairymen's League and milk dealers failed to settle January milk prices. A strike was threatened unless an agreement is reached before delivery tomorrow. Farm Bureau Manager L C Greene said the situation would be monitored from Middle town. Prices discussed ranged from 4.01 per 160 pounds for 3 percent milk to 3.60 per 100 pounds, about a cent below December. Two major grocers cut dipped milk prices, while Loton Horton testified about his firm distributing 500,000 quarts daily from humble beginnings.
George J Madden son of Theodore F Madden of 145 South Street Middletown has been chosen secretary and assistant treasurer of the Half Coal Corporation Ogdensburg American Journal reports he has long been associated with Mr Augsburg and will move from Montreal to Ogdensburg to aid in general management He is 29 and also secretary of the George Hall Coal Company of Canada He will be a permanent resident of Ogdensburg and has many local friends.
The Times-Press notes the old year ends with mixed marks as the Common Council and Board of Health hold final meetings. Ward shifts add new members Ira H. Van Fleet H. E. Holly Ogden and W. H. Funnell. The new council will convene Thursday with Mayor Cox delivering the annual message. Watch Night services at St Pauls Church feature Rev Gregory Hubert Lawrence and a public program. New Year’s Day shows follow in the church schedule.
The Rev Dr George Alexander former pastor of University Place Presbyterial Church is named pastor of the New First Presbyterian Church. The Rev Dr Harry Emerson Fosdick chosen as permanent Preacher. Fosdick to preach while Alexander serves in a pastoral capacity. Mrs Charity E Thome Myers widow of Samuel C Myers dies at Port Jervis home aged 76.
Washington reports the United States spent about 18.16 billion dollars in the year ending today to run the war government and aid the Allies. About 10.6 billion funded the army and military establishment, 2 billion the navy, 1 billion shipbuilding, 1 billion civil government, and over 4 billion in loans to war supporters.
Binghamton report states William W. Farley former State excise commissioner will be appointed to the New York Public Service Commission shortly after January 1. Farley has been linked to the public works post but is said to have declined. The PSC post will be based in Binghamton to recognize southern tier Democrats.
Acid factories in Delaware county will close under a Government order due to wartime supplies of acetate. Wages for woodchoppers are cut and further reductions are planned. The casualty list includes J. P. Shea Textdo Fark reported missing but has returned to duty. William J. Mahoney Nawburgh wounded severely. H David Marrison Kingston listed as out of disease.
The Wilson party departed Dover for London at 11:20 am with crowds cheering along the route. Premier Lloyd George stood on the platform as the train left, and Paris reports note plans for President Wilson to visit Rome tomorrow remain unchanged despite the Italian cabinet crisis.
