Fourteen Anxious to Fight Leave for Camp Upton

Fourteen registrants from this exemption district entrained at 6 27 morning for Camp Upton Yaphank L I where they will undergo weeks of training before overseas service. They were escorted by a band and accompanied by relatives and friends. Local men and others from surrounding districts were listed with full addresses. Three Year Old Isadore Berkman Found Near Oriental Farm

A three year old boy named Isadore Berkman was found near the Oriental Farm House in Mountaindale after missing since Saturday. He wore clean clothes, hair combed, and asked only for water, suggesting he was never far from the boarding house. Authorities consider a possible frameup to secure a reward and note he had no hunger and a crust of bread as sustenance during his disappearance.

Boys at Camp Meade Invite Riders To Share Travel

Camp Meade Aug 1 report describes quarantine ongoing until Monday while 2060 troops drill and attend a hygienic lecture by Captain Stone. Food is ample, all well, and men eager to leave quarantine. Filed Petitions of J. D. Stivers At Albany Today

Special to the Times Press Albany August 2 petitions of John D. Stivers filed for the Republican nomination for Senator representing Orange and Sullivan counties with Secretary of State Hugo today. The petitions include more than 1500 names from across the district. This marks the largest petition volume Stivers has filed since entering the race.

War costs climb to over 1.5 billion monthly in 1919

Washington reports July 1919 war and ordinary costs at 1,508,282,650, a 2 percent monthly rise as war production expands. Cash balance stands at 1,507,281,974 despite heavy tax, savings, and stamp revenues. loaned sums to Allies were 343,485,000 last month.

Fochs Men Capture Ridge Between Aisne and Ourcq

Allied forces on the western side of the Marne salient report capturing the entire ridge forming the watershed between the Ourcq and the Aisne, plus Meuniere wood. Ville en Tardenois encircled as French advance continues between Soissons and Rheims, with heavy German resistance and rising prisoner counts. Casualties and prisoners listed as thousands, as the offensive resumes.
