Liberty Loan subscriptions climbed to 1 238 000 000 nationally with Middletown surpassing the one million mark as local committees report major bank contributions and a banner day raising 11 300. Ace flyer Chateau Joe Stehlin of the Lafayette Escadrille may tour by train after an accident, while Congresswoman Chandler of New York is slated to address Middletown on April 28 at the Chamber of Commerce event.
The largest number of recruits left the local Army recruiting station at 6 35 am for Fort Slocum en route to Pougaseensie in the 0% port, with 11 in the party. Names include Christian Elmer, Fred A. Treyz, Casper Smith, and others assigned to units such as the 11th and 192d Engineers, and the 104th Field Artillery. The Red Cross provided sweaters, scarves, wristlets, socks, and a comfort kit, drawing thanks from the group.
Frederick Clara, son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Clark, was painfully injured Friday afternoon at 4:59 when an automobile from Burlingham struck him as he and companions played on Hizalend avenue. He was thrown against a curb stone, carried to 171 Eighland avenue, with head lacerations and a fractured nose. Doctors examined him. no serious developments expected.
A large train for coaches passed through the city this morning headed eastward. The express cars bore the name Cmon Pacific and the scene involved military personnel boarding and traveling aboard the long Pacific express train.

Rev. Charles S Burch DD reports Bishop Sufragan of New York will visit Grace Episcopal Church this Sunday to preach at the altar and confer the sacrament of confirmation on parishioners prepared by the rector. He arrives Saturday afternoon and stays at the church rectory on Linden Plaza. Sunday includes a confirmation at Walden and a sermon at St James Church.
Mrs Femvlocm of Poughkeepsie announces the engagement of her daughter Liar WW to Dr David Weohn of Hechester. The couple plans a future wedding and requests holiday congratulations from friends and relatives.
Three Austrians including Charles Kovac and Dr Joseph Stulz were arrested in New York and Poughkeepsie as federal agents probe an alleged dangerous situation in the Hudson River Valley. Kovac, Bannerman Island custodian, was taken to the alien enemy bureau. Stulz, chemist and former German captain, linked by marriage to a Poughkeepsie millionaire, faces charges of anti American propaganda.
A memorial service for Private Lester E White of Livingston Manor, killed in action in France, will be held at 2 o clock on Sunday at the local Presbyterian Church with Rev DG Laxson in charge. Born July 1 1895 in Greene County he was 22 years eight months old and attended Livingston Manor High School before enlisting in Bridgeport Connecticut.
A meeting of the Taxcavers' and Business Mens League was held at Mannerchor Hall to pose accounts impaired during the wet and dry campaigns. The accounts were balanced. The meeting adjourned at the chair's call with no formal steps to disband.
Maccabees Bay Liberty Bonds Middletown Tent No 283 K O T M held a meeting last evening to vote on purchasing $500 in Liberty Bonds. District Deputy Murray from Nawburgh attended and praised the patriotic effort by the local group.
Lord Cecil asserts that the war remains dangerous and warns allies against assuming victory. He cautions that an end to the battle is not assured and that fears must not be underestimated. He stresses continued vigilance and resolve amid ongoing conflict.
London reports lord cecil says German forces have had fifty years of preparation and a favorable position and united command. He warns of terrible struggles ahead and cautions not to under-rate the enemy’s long preparation.
Charles Alton, a mechanic for Ideal Wrapping Machine Co, was badly injured Friday when his automobile turned turtle on the State road near Otisville during a practice run. Fellow worker Ralph C. Van Wert followed in a second car, stopped for gas, then watched Alton’s car overturn and left him on the ground. Alton was taken home in serious condition. the vehicle was badly damaged.
Morris Kantl of Paterson N J was arrested today on unlawfil train riding by Erie Detective William Kane. He was arraigned before Recorder How ard 3M and released. Kantlin, registered in the draft, was summoned to appear for examination and was on his way from Detroit Michigan. Meeting Of Committee on Armenian relief with ushers at Stratton theatre Sunday afternoon at o clock urged to attend for final arrangements.
The Liberty Loan committee of Middletown held at Grace Church a meeting of pastors from all local churches. They resolved to support the Liberty Loan with Sunday sermons and four minute talks in churches. They plan a patriotic Stratton meeting addressed by Congress member Chandler and Armenian relief events. Mr and Mrs Robert S Craner of Duarkill visited Friday.
