Finkelman dies at 89 in Middletown legacy builder

Harry A. Finkelman known as Mr. Middletown died Thursday at Middletown Regional Hospital at age 89. A self made real estate developer since 1939, he helped found the Butler County Humane Association in 1952 and restored landmark properties including the Sorg Opera House. He anonymously funded the Music on Main festival downtown last month and was senior member of the local real estate board.

House votes to shield under God pledge from court challenges

The House approved a 247 to 173 measure to bar federal courts including the Supreme Court from hearing cases challenging the words under God in the Pledge of Allegiance. GOP supporters argue Congress can limit jurisdiction while Democrats warn it debases the Constitution before the election.

Smith turns himself in after Atlantis nightclub shooting

Dogs detect cancer by scent in first scientific test

London reports the first controlled study showing dogs can smell cancer. ordinary pet dogs correctly identified bladder cancer urine far more often than random, suggesting potential for future screening though practical use is not imminent.
