The sermon argues happiness is not the Christian goal. True happiness comes through faith in Christ and loving others, even when it involves pain. Christians accept suffering as part of caring, following Jesus and seeking God’s kingdom.
Committees chosen for the Country Cupboard Bazaar to be held October 7 at Pleasant Ridge United Methodist Church, Melba Ballard and Carol Lawson co chairing. Event runs 11 am to 8 pm with sandwiches soups pies served all day. Bazaar is a church project with many committee chairs and activities listed. The Pontifical College Josephinum in Worthington near Columbus is noted as the only papal seminary in North America.
An open house for Mr and Mrs Jack Peggy Clark formerly of 16 Baltimore St is set for Sunday from 4 to 7 pm on St John Church grounds. Jack Clark recently retired after more than 20 years as parish custodian while his wife retired September 1 as a Middletown Hospital medical secretary. The couple will relocate to a mobile home near Rocky Fork Lake and refreshments will be served with a weather backup to the St John cafeteria per Rev Stephen Calme.
