Soldiers leave Beirut in redeployment move

Hundereds of Syrian troops in the hills near Beirut begin dismantling bases to comply with a U.N. demand that all 20,000 Syrian forces leave Lebanon. A Lebanese official says the 1,000 troops are relocating within Lebanon, not exiting the country, casting doubt on meeting the Security Council and allied expectations. No movement was seen in Aramoun, Chuwhefat, Damour, Doha, Khaldeh, or Dhourt al Chouair, where soldiers were observed still performing daily tasks as journalists arrived.
