Franklin Council approves new north-south thoroughfare plan route
Franklin City Council voted 6 to 1 to amend the thoroughfare plan adding a north–south route near I-75. The measure follows a public hearing with landowner John Young opposing the route, noting land sale would hinder development and questioning donation of ground. The plan aims to reduce Claude-Thomas Road traffic congestion and tie into Virginia Avenue toward Franklin Square, with projected $40,000 land-striping and ramp modifications funded by state and federal sources. Other actions included appointing a council member to a vacancy, funding requests for a water storage facility and a new fire station, and board appointments.
