Two simple fit tests help detect outgrown shoes. First hold the shoe to a light to view the foot imprint on the insole and count toe marks, noting if five toes fit or if the great toe leaves a light area ahead. Second insert a hand palm up to feel if the great toe digs into the toe box, indicating a shallow toe box.
