Cincinnati Firm Low On Plant Bids

Miller Construction Co. of Cincinnati submitted the lowest of eight bids for the city’s sewage treatment plant on Oxford State Road at 1,192,000 dollars. Gov Frank J Lausche commuted the death sentence of Benjamin Meyer to life imprisonment for the murder of his wife Velvia on February 15 1954. Meyer 26 was sentenced to die by electrocution last August 25 and received a reprieve to allow case review. Under Ohio law first degree murderers with life terms may have a Pardon and Parole Commission hearing after 20 years and parole consideration follows a commutation.

Escaped Murderer Surrenders to Pierce County Sheriff

Harvey John Collins a 29 year old convicted murderer who escaped from Pierce County Jail with six others surrendered to Sheriff Harold Bird.
