Ambrose Burnside Honored in Liberty Indiana Sesquicentennial
Union County celebrates its 150th anniversary while recalling Maj. Gen. Ambrose E. Burnside born near Liberty in 1824. Born to Edghil Burnside and pioneers from South Carolina, Burnside rose from local trades to West Point, Civil War command, Rhode Island governor terms, and U S Senator. Indiana honors include an historical marker in the courthouse yard and Burnside Rest Park with Civil War siege guns nearby.
