Village Administrator Donald Tevis proposed moving the garage site to avoid delays in buying 2 acres behind the Municipal Building for a federal grant project. A Cincinnati firm will file for a Public Works Act grant to cover construction and plans.
A fire occurred early today at 4:23 a.m. at 1608 Central Ave. Stella Gable, 60, was treated for pains and released by 2:10 a.m. at 830 17th Ave. David Williams, 41, was taken to a hospital, admitted, with condition not available.
City Council on the advice of City Attorney Thomas Stubbs Jr. repealed a 1975 open space fee on subdivision developments, ruling the $150 per-lot charge unconstitutional as a tax without authority. Refunds totaling $300 will go to Walnut Grove Swim Club.
The two day Preble County Pork Festival kicks off tomorrow in Eaton with a 200 unit parade and 16 bands. A 1976 Preble County Pork Queen is chosen, and pork smorgasbord meals are offered at the fairgrounds. Sheriff Higgins and Eaton diver Kent Vosler marshal the parade.
In a joint meeting City Council and the Recreation Board clarified the overdrawn recreation account. City Manager Bernard Eichholz outlined purchase orders for expenditures while James Mears noted annual net board costs around 24 000 to 25 000 with receipts becoming general fund revenue. The board runs basketball volleyball softball tennis and crafts with various clinics and urged better promotion.
