Thebes Ruins on the Nile The Temple of Amon
Thebes ruins lie along the Nile near Karnak with the Temple of Amon dating back about three thousand years. Kings funded the work including Amenehop II and III, and Queen Hatshepsut left two obelisks. The temple measured 338 feet by 12 hundred feet and housed grand pillars with carvings and inscriptions. Ahmose I sent lavish gifts of gold, silver, and precious materials, showing the temple’s riches.
