Court to confront Bakke backlash on affirmative action
The Supreme Court faces a high stakes case arising from the Bakke decision as Kaiser Aluminum and a union contest a lower court ruling that federal law bars voluntary affirmative action programs. Weber, a white employee in Gramercy Louisiana, claims racial discrimination under the Civil Rights Act of 1964, while Kaiser argues the policy aids minority opportunity. The court term opens October 2 with responses due within 30 days.

Bible scholar doubts Noah's Ark discovery on Mount Ararat
Duke divinity scholar Rev. Dr. Lloyd R. Bailey argues popular ark claims rely on hearsay and flawed tests. He notes that scientists from UC and Miami dispute finds and says mainstream scholarship lacks a calm informed assessment. Bailey details four contested evidences including sighting reports, eye witness accounts, a snow light line at 13 500 feet, and beams claimed from glacial ice dated 5 000 years. He adds the ark's supposed construction date as 200 BC remains unsubstantiated.
