Three carpenters died yesterday after a hoisting accident inside the Marina City tower core near Chicago. They fell 43 floors when a crane mechanism failed, tumbling to the bottom of the silo shaped structure during construction.
President Kennedy wins Senate approval as the chamber restores nearly all House cuts in the foreign aid bill. The $4.20 billion aid package, part of a $4.42 billion overall money bill, includes $40 million for the Peace Corps and $1.2 billion in economic development loans. Senate rejected trimming $150 million from military aid and added provisions on neutrality and policy toward nonaligned nations.
Workers at Queen City Dinettes Inc. will return to work Monday after a strike that began July 23 over a new contract. The agreement, announced Friday, provides a six cent hourly raise this year and a similar raise next year, covering about 160 employees.

Miami reports confer five priests Boza Masvidal Agnelio Blanco Francisco Botey Pedro Wuan and Arnaldo Bazan arrested after anti Communists clashed with police and militia at a Havana church. Cuban authorities seized the Jesuit Novitiate of San Estanislao amid a crackdown following Sept. 10 demonstrations. One killed and scores wounded.
Western foreign ministers led by Dean Rusk made progress on military and political countermeasures against Soviet pressure on West Berlin. They planned to conclude talks in Washington ahead of U.N. General Assembly events and ahead of potential Berlin talks with Andrei Gromyko.
Police hold Silas Drue, 72, for investigation of his wife Sadie Drue's death at General Hospital. Detective Buck says he beat her with a chair Tuesday night and then scalded her with hot water in the alleged assault.
